AUDREY
"Use this umbrella, Snow white. What do you think you're doing? Being a runaway model? displaying the umbrella?" Harvey spoke. Nagging me like I am his daughter. An unica Hija.
"Oh, thank you so much for reminding me. You're the best, Pops!" I spoke. Sarcastically. He just faked a laugh and make as face. Posing like a girly and rolling his eyes on me.
"Let's go! Carty's been waiting" Harvey called me again. We run down the stairs. Class was done, smoothly. Nothing goes anything exceptional.
"There he is!" Harvey excitedly runover Carter's group and left his sister walking alone. I snickered. Like this guy is fanboying or what? Leaving me, his sister? for Pete's sake. I wiped my sweat. It's a sunny day. As I approached Carter and his friends. Including My brother, I looked around one last time to find someone so popular I'd feel bad without seeing that person.
"Who are you looking for?" Carter asked, all smile. Showing his perfect white teeth.
"Hmm...No one" I spoke without even giving him a glance. Continuing to look around.
"No one? but you keep looking around it only took one bad turn, and you'll eventually break your neck" Carter sassily tried to block my face by his own. I immediately stepped back.
"What the heck" I hissed. My forehead knotted.
"Yes. What the heck" -Carter. He put his hands on his waist. Giving me that judgmental stare. My eyebrows raised.
"What the heck was that, tsk" I rolled my eyes and get inside the car. I made sure to slam the car door harder than usual. I put my earphones on and played a loud music, so I won't suffer hearing Harvey and friends' conversation. I didn't talk to anyone while we're on our way home.
I don't like people invading my personal space. It makes my blood boil. I don't like people crossing the lines I already draw.
"What was that, Audrey?" Mom asked as I enter the door. I just shrugged after I kissed her on her cheeks.
After dinner, Harvey knocked on my room.
"What?" I asked. I'm not looking back at him. He's leaning on the door frame. Not even entering my room.
"Carter told me what happened earlier. He said sorry for what he did" Harvey spoke.
"He should be" I spoke. Firmly. Harvey was about to say something, but he kept his mouth shut. This is not the time for him to cheer up and side with his favorite friend. He knows how hard it is for me to open up to new people. Not after what happened to our father. Crossing the line and invading my space is one of the things I would hate.
Harvey did countless of time trying to explain to me that what happened to father, wouldn't possibly happen to us too. That we should always be open to possibility and that what happened to our father does not normally occur. That one shitty person like the person who betrayed our father could possibly the same as everyone we meet. That not everyone would potentially hurt us.
"Stop trying to explain everything to me, Harvey. People have different prospective in life. My prospective in life is far different from yours. I respect your opinion, but you should respect my opinion too, even if you particularly don't agree with it. This is my life, and this is how I view things from my point of view" I spoke. Harvey nod. Not saying a word. He shut the door closed after saying goodnight.
I opened my glass window to breathe fresh air. I looked up the sky only to see beautiful set of stars. They're utterly beautiful. I looked down at the scratch papers I've been using and crumpled it out of frustration. I threw it on trash bin.
"This won't work" I closed my sketch book and put my things back to where I took it and clean up the mess, I made doing useless stuff to release my anger. As I was about to close my window, I stop in the middle looking at the familiar cat walking at the pavement across the stress in front of our house.
How did the cat get here? I closed my window not noticing the man who owns the cat walking without making any noise.
---
I went to the university earlier than my schedule for that day. I'm not in the mood to hop around Carty's car. I went to the library right after I ate my breakfast the cafeteria. I put my earphones on and everything around me went blank.
I read few books to kill time. I just picked science related stuffs and borrowed it to the librarian. I'm about to flip the page I'm done reading when someone caught my attention right outside the glass wall beside where I sit. I immediately recognized that pale tall boy.
"What the hell is he doing outside..." I muttered under my breath as I stare outside the window. It's early in the morning and he's outside walking like the rain is not falling hard. It's a heavy rain. The moment I said those words, his head turns towards my direction like he heard what I've said. I blinked a few times, but I stare at him in awe as I look at those ocean blue eyes lightened by the thunder lightning. Did he just smirk?
I didn't plan on breaking the eye contact with Dylan but the abrupt appearance of Carter beside me makes me jump in shock.
"What the fuck, Carter?" I hissed. He looked surprised and taken aback but then he just smiled at me occupy the sit in front of where I sit.
"What are you staring outside?" He asked.
"..." I didn't answer his question and just looked back to where Dylan was standing just before he gone. Yes. He's gone. I groaned in annoyance.
"Why?" Carter asked another why that makes my forehead knotted in irritation.
"That's your second why early in the morning, Mr.Golden Boy" I sarcastically spoke and clears my table.
"Who are you looking for?" He asked again.
"Who'd I looked for?" I spoke. Lying straight to his face. He remains still. Staring at me directly that makes me quite uncomfortable the fact that I lied.
"I saw it, you're staring at him. You'd still lie, Audrey?" Carter said. Not smiling. Not even a bit. I stare at him back. Putting my things right inside my bag. Hurriedly that my things accidentally fall on the floor.
"You saw it, why do you have to ask" I spoke. Giving him the same energy. Apathetic.
"...Why do you have to lie" He asked. Innocently. Looks hurt. I tried to stop myself from blinking. My eyes were watery. I remember my father's hurt expression the moment he knew one of his close friends betray him. I clutched my bag so tight.
"I don't"
We didn't talk much even if we're on the same class. Carter's not smiling on me either. He didn't smile like he used to. He's just staring at me the whole time, giving a glance. A glace that would make you feel that you did something bad. I didn't want to pay attention to his whims. I ignore all his glance and act like I didn't notice him. I looked at my right side and let out a deep sighed.
The ocean eyed man I saw earlier wasn't in the room we are in. He didn't attend the class.
"Disappointed?" I slam my locker door hard as possible when I head Carter said, right beside me. He's leaning on the locker.
"What the fuck is wrong with you, Golden boy? bugging me all this way just to ask if I was disappointed? asshole!" I said and slammed him the book I'm holding. He didn't even flinch.
"Well, you lied. What should I do to know if you're really saying the truth? shake you until you tell me the truth" Carter said playfully. I stop at the moment.
"Did your head hit something?" I asked. He just shrugged and smile at me.
"If you're looking for the pale boy, he's definitely sick" Carter said.
"I'm not interested" I lied. I bit my tongue. Lie. Fuck.
"Lie all you want; you're not the only girl who fall for that crap" Carter said it like he's used to it.
"Did you just call someone a crap?" I asked. Shocked. Not from the golden boy whom I know who only spoke kind words.
"I did. And I will never be shy to tell that to you twice" he said grinning. I stop putting my belongings inside the locker.
"You have a beef with the man, do you?"
"..."
"Oh my... that's why you're bugging me nonstop about him!"
"..." This rude boy just ignored me and left me there. After starting the conversation, he just left me. What the heck is wrong with this dude. I knew it, something is wrong the way he speaks about the man. I just shrugged and went to the next class up to my schedule. I looked at the vacant seat right beside me again.
Hearing Dylan that is sick does not surprise me. By the looks of him, he doesn't look the type to go outside. Literally. He's too pale. I let out a heavy sighed. Reminiscing those ocean blue eyes.
"Ouch..." I touched my forehead where the object landed.
"..." Carter makes a face. Carter did throw a crumpled paper on me. I just ignored Carter's annoying stance. What the heck is wrong with this sunshine boy. These days he's been very grumpy, and annoying.
I'm currently writing down notes when I accidentally looked outside the window on my right side. Oh, another pale kid. Does not look like Dylan, he just had those same pale skin. He's on the hallway. Standing there, lurking under the shade of building. He's smoking. Yeah. Smoking inside university's premises. I snorted. I looked up the sky, it's getting dark. Seems like it's going to pour rain again. The moment I looked back at the man, he's standing under the shade of tree near the window where I am. I almost had a heart attack.
"What the heck, people always giving me a jump scare..." I murmur. People around me these days are weird, annoying, and grumpy.
After class, I went to the cafeteria with Carter. He insisted and I don't even want to start an argument.
"Have you seen him?" Evan asked the moment Carter laid his butt on his chair.
"The elder?" Carter spoke after he took a big bite. He looks satisfied and calm after having his first bite.
"Yes. I've seen him. Even Audrey did" Carter said. I look at him.
"Who?" I asked.
"No one..." He spoke and chew his food. I hit his shoulder. He just laughed at me. Evan just kept his mouth shut with his food. After we ate. We met Harvey at the parking lot.
"Hey, Did Dylan West have a sibling?" Harvey asked. Carter stare at him for a long pause.
"Yes. Why did you ask?" Carter answers him as he hops inside the car.
"A man with pale skin does look like him..." Harvey said.
"Uh, yeah. Probably that's his brother..." Carter casually answers Harvey's question.
I learned a lot of things about Dylan West for that day.
He's weird. A lot of people know his name but never the real Dylan West. They just know Dylan West, He's famous because of his good looks and he looks wealthy but other than that they know nothing about Dylan. Nothing about his personal life. Like where he lived or what knots. But this dude, Carter knows more than the public knows. But looks like Carter doesn't like Dylan.
We once again went to Carter's favorite place with Evan and Kirko. Of course, I'll go with Harvey wherever he goes. I'm not going to let this wild kid go astray.
They're playing on waters like kids, and I just sat at the swing under the massive tree and listened to music as I fall asleep thinking about those ethereally beautiful ocean blue eyes.
