Chapter 2: Counterkill

Chapter 2: Counterkill

"Retreat, my ass, I won't retreat."

Seeing the last sentence, Gu Xi couldn't help but shout.

Turning a simple job assignment task into this situation, and making him suffer so much, he ended up contracting the weakest undead.

And now they wanted to kick him out.

That was impossible.

Unless he laid flat those who captured him, this matter wouldn't be over.

As he shouted, Gu Xi threw the dead rat at the two men outside the door who hadn't reacted yet.

Level 2 Throwing skill accurately hurled the dead rat onto one of the men's faces.

Hit by the rat, the man finally snapped back to reality. His gaze filled with killing intent as he looked at Gu Xi, but just as he was about to draw his knife, he heard Gu Xi whisper a word.

"Boom!"

The dead rat exploded on his face like a large firecracker, powerful enough to launch a pot into the sky.

The lethality was only moderate, but it exploded right in front of his face. The blast shockwave, carrying the rat's bones, pierced through his eyes and into his brain.

[Killed Cultist (Level 1), gained 10 experience points.]

The other man immediately drew a dagger from his waist.

At that moment, his movements noticeably slowed as if his joints were frozen.

Gu Xi was startled to see Luna, who had been in front of him, now appearing behind the man.

Two faint blue tentacles stretched from the mirror Luna was holding, touching the man's back. White frost spread from the contact points, slowly covering his entire body.

Then Luna whispered softly in his ear.

The man, who had been trying to draw his dagger, collapsed immediately.

As he fell, Gu Xi saw his face behind the hood, covered in blood flowing from his seven orifices.

[Luna (Contracted Undead) killed Cultist (Level 1), you gain 4 experience points, Contracted Undead gains 7 experience points.]

This situation surprised Gu Xi. Initially, he hadn't valued Luna's combat strength.

If not for having no other option, Gu Xi wouldn't have thought of contracting such a weak ghost.

He knew that every two levels or one level of the Undead Contract skill would allow him to contract one more undead.

And in return, the contracted undead's level could normally exceed the necromancer's level by five.

Originally, Gu Xi's plan was to choose a level 5 vampire or lich as his first contracted undead, so that while summoning ordinary undead as cannon fodder, he would have a powerful helper to command.

Even in danger, there would be someone to consult or assist.

Luna's attributes were far worse than Gu Xi's, making him feel his first contracted undead was useless.

Now it seemed otherwise. Luna had some combat power; at least she would attack proactively, and that was enough.

While thinking this, Gu Xi quickly ran to the cell door. Before he could give any orders, Luna found the keys from the two corpses and threw them to Gu Xi.

Holding the cold keys, Gu Xi's last bit of dissatisfaction with contracting Luna vanished.

Since they were contracted, he would use her well.

Contracted undead were different from summoned undead.

Contracted undead required minimal command and their coordination would only improve.

In time, he could find a way for Luna to level up and make up for the lost levels.

Thinking this, Gu Xi accepted Luna as his partner in his heart.

Unlocking the cell door, Luna handed over a dagger and a curved knife.

Clearly, while Gu Xi was unlocking the door, Luna had searched the corpses.

"Distribute the keys."

Gu Xi took the curved knife and dagger, hanging them at his waist, and threw a bunch of keys to Luna.

Luna took the keys and flew to the nearby cells, throwing keys in front of the imprisoned people.

Taking this opportunity, Gu Xi performed the soul extraction ritual on the two corpses, quickly drawing two pale white soul fragments from them.

[Completed soul extraction ritual, obtained soul fragment*1.4]

Gu Xi didn't immediately synthesize the soul fragments into a complete soul, he simply stored them. Holding the curved knife, he ran towards the depths of the corridor outside the cell.

Luna had already distributed all the keys. When Gu Xi started to run, she followed closely.

Gu Xi didn't look back. Just feeling the coldness behind him, he knew Luna was following.

Realizing this, Gu Xi sped up. Although he didn't know why the cultists captured him, he knew this place was not safe.

He didn't want to die here right after starting his job.

Better to escape first.

Before he could run a few steps, he heard rapid footsteps ahead.

Apparently, the explosion in the cell area had alerted the cultists.

The cells below held the sacrifices they had captured. If something happened and they lost one or two sacrifices, they might be sent to the altar themselves.

To save their own lives, these cultists were very diligent.

Seeing the figure rushing out, Gu Xi drew back his left hand, catching the dagger.

At this moment, the cultists also noticed Gu Xi. One of them shouted loudly.

"The sacrifice escaped, the sacrifice escaped..."

Before he could finish, Gu Xi's dagger was already embedded in his forehead.

[Killed Cultist (Level 1), gained 12 experience points.]

Seeing Gu Xi take the initiative to attack, the cultists nearby were enraged. Stepping over their companion's corpse, they rushed at Gu Xi with weapons.

But Gu Xi and Luna's cooperation exceeded the cultists' expectations. The moment Gu Xi threw the dagger, Luna appeared in front of him. Tentacles from her mirror touched the ground, instantly covering it with frost.

Taking this opportunity, Gu Xi pointed at the corpse on the ground.

"Boom!"

The secondary corpse explosion skill activated again, and the recently fallen cultist's body exploded.

Compared to the dead rat Gu Xi had thrown, which was like a firecracker, the explosion of the cultist's body was significantly more powerful.

When the body exploded, it had the power of a real landmine.

In the narrow corridor, with the cultists crowded together running over the body, the explosion launched them all into the air.

Taking this chance, Luna opened her mouth slightly towards the spot where the cultists had been blown away. An invisible wave spread out from Luna as the center.

The cultists within the secondary corpse explosion's blast radius were already gravely injured. Luna's banshee wail took their remaining life.

A series of notifications flashed before Gu Xi, informing him of his gains.

[Killed Cultist (Level 1), gained 9 experience points.]

[Luna (Contracted Undead) killed Cultist (Level 1), you gain 6 experience points, Contracted Undead gains 8 experience points.]
