Chapter 35 Street Scene

Chapter 35 Street Scene

"Deal!"

The waiter said happily, "Sir, how about we go to the Tamworth District now?"

Seeing the waiter's expression, Gu Xi felt like he might have been a bit too careless.

"I'm warning you, I'm not easy to fool. Although I agree to go to Tamworth District, it must be next to the Camden District."

For Gu Xi's serious attitude, the waiter smiled and said, "Please rest assured, our Fate Compass Guild has never disappointed any customer."

After speaking, the waiter made a gesture of invitation.

And Shaya outside the door was eager to follow them.

Gu Xi, feeling a bit awkward, said, "Can you all go out for a moment? At least let me put on my clothes."

But Shaya didn't retreat; instead, she poked her head in as if saying, "I've seen everything."

Gu Xi put on the freshly washed clothes, not minding that they were still damp. At least they weren't as smelly and could be worn now.

Seeing this, the waiter couldn't help but frown.

As a thief, he disliked such outfits that easily exposed one's whereabouts.

But Gu Xi wasn't his subordinate, so he couldn't say anything.

He just watched as Gu Xi changed clothes, then used bread to soak up the soup, holding it in hand while walking out.

"Teacher, what profession do you think he belongs to with his hurried demeanor?"

"With him being so skinny, most likely a necromancer."

The waiter whispered, "Shaya, stay in the store later, don't go out."

"It doesn't matter." Shaya rolled her eyes, "It's not dark yet, and there are no customers in the store. Following along won't affect anything."

The waiter glared at her, and Shaya shrank back, hiding behind the door.

"You think I won't go like this? Think again."

The waiter didn't bother much with Shaya's attitude. On one hand, it was a test for Shaya, and on the other hand, he wanted to show Gu Xi that he was professional.

But Gu Xi didn't understand the waiter's intention at all. His thoughts were entirely on the waiter's familiarity with the nearby roads.

This waiter was indeed a member of the Thieves' Guild, familiar with every street and alley in the area.

Sometimes, even when there seemed to be no way forward, he could open a small door and lead them to another alley.

Following behind the waiter, Gu Xi nearly got lost.

And this was during the daytime with a guide. Gu Xi believed that anyone entering these alleys at night would need at least three to five hours to find their way out.

This area also connected to many main streets. After a few turns, the waiter led Gu Xi out of the alleys.

"Up ahead is Greenwich Street. Crossing this street, you'll reach Northumberland Avenue, the boundary between Camden District and Tamworth District."

The waiter walked and introduced earnestly.

Gu Xi followed behind, looking around the street.

The buildings on both sides of the street seemed relatively tall, with no storefronts in sight, just doorplates and no other signs, making it look uninviting.

Seeing Gu Xi looking around, the waiter quickly pulled him.

"Don't look around. This street is nicknamed Big Scotland Yard. You don't want to get yourself into trouble, do you?"

Hearing this, Gu Xi realized this street was under Scotland Yard's jurisdiction.

No wonder there were no signs.

But this location was good. Right outside was Scotland Yard's territory, so there were fewer petty thieves around.

Gu Xi was thinking this when he saw the waiter ahead of him.

This guy seemed to be a thief, yet he was walking freely on Greenwich Street.

It seemed Scotland Yard's deterrent power wasn't that strong.

The waiter didn't know what Gu Xi was thinking. He led Gu Xi through the street and they entered the Tamworth District.

As soon as they entered this street, Gu Xi noticed a significant difference from Greenwich Street.

The buildings were not as tall, and there were apartment buildings everywhere.

Between buildings, there were occasional vacant lots or abandoned old buildings.

Since Gu Xi requested to be near Camden District, the waiter didn't take him further in.

He just pointed out a few apartments or lots for sale on the street.

"This land is available for exchange. Don't mind its narrow shape; being long has its advantages. At least the area is large, nearly 600 square meters.

Due to the terrain, it hasn't been sold. If you want to exchange, 300 square meters of Camden District land can easily secure it.

As long as the height doesn't exceed the surrounding buildings, you can build however you want.

And this small building is also for sale. Look at this gate. As soon as you exit, see that? It's the Camden District street. Just a short walk and you're in Camden District."

The waiter, though not a professional broker, gave a stiff introduction. But Gu Xi's requirements weren't high: a large enough area close to Camden District.

So Gu Xi quickly took a liking to a small building for sale, a three-story building, just five buildings away from Greenwich Street. The building looked new, with freshly painted doors.

Seeing Gu Xi's interest, the waiter was happy to elaborate.

Although the building's owner wasn't their guild's client, the guild was handling a big deal, and Camden District's land permit was the most useful thing. Exchanging for such a building was quite easy.

Just as Gu Xi was about to finalize, he glanced outside and pointed to the intersection of Greenwich Street and Northumberland Avenue.

"Wait, what's going on over there?"

The intersection formed a T-shape. At the spot Gu Xi pointed, there was a collapsed building.

The original land area of the building was about 320 square meters, but with the collapse, all building materials were piled on the ground, looking very messy.

The waiter looked and explained, "What else? The ownership of this land is unclear. The original owner claimed it belonged to Greenwich Street, part of Camden District.

But clearly, it's in the middle of Northumberland Avenue, no way it's part of Camden District.

So, it's been left like this."

Gu Xi considered the ruins seriously, "If I'm willing to acknowledge it as part of Tamworth District, would the price be cheaper?"
