Looking at the 6 wolves lying were lying in the lake he could only stare blankly. He walked towards them and prodded it with his little fingers.
'It's dead, it seemed just fine a moment ago…'
The wolves didn't undergo any physical changes.
'Ah, I should probably get out, I drank this didn't I? I wonder if I'm still okay. It doesn't make sense for them to die on contact and for me to live just fine.'
He quickly got out of the lake and went back to the egg.
'Another long walk, but at least it should be easier going forward.'
It was getting dark, and he needed to find a place to stay, and there just so happened to be an egg that could hide him pretty well. Just needed to stretch it out a bit and he'd be set.
'It'll be a little messy though, all that slime.'
He ignored that the egg was the source of his grief until few hours ago. He decided not getting eaten in his sleep by a wild animal was more important. And besides that, he was starting to get hungry.
*grrr*
'Ah, my stomach, I'll have to find something to eat tomorrow.'
When he got to the egg it was already starting to get too dark to see. He fumbled around for the entrance and squeezed himself inside the egg. There was still a small puddle at the bottom, but it wasn't anything he couldn't tolerate, so he curled himself up and began to sleep. He ignored the howls in the distance.
The next day, he woke up with meat in his mouth.
'Was I so hungry that I took a bite of the egg?'
"Nom nom nom"
'Wow it tastes good.'
The flesh was sweet and juicy, but still had that taste that made you think "yeah this is meat", lacking any of the flavor that comes with raw meat. Although not tender, it was satisfying to chew as more flavors came out the more you chewed.
'Meat flavored gum'
He quickly threw away that degenerate thought and swallowed the meat-egg chunk.
'It didn't have the texture of gum anyway.'
He peaked his head outside to see if there was anything dangerous lurking before he went out, and surprise, there was something, just not dangerous.
"uhm"
'a rabbit, poor thing'
It was a hare but he was ignorant to such things.
'Did someone leave this here as a gift? Obviously not, people usually run away when they see something like this'.
He looks at the egg behind him.
'Surely it didn't just so happen to kneel over and die at my front door so to speak, so why-'
It was just like yesterday when he was washing himself from the slime when the wolves jumped into the water and promptly died. And around the egg, dead grass surrounds it like a barrier. And now this rabbit(hare) is sitting right in front of my egg, lying in a puddle of slime.
'…'
"haaa~"
he sighed in relief.
'I was wondering what would happen to me after frolicking and drinking from the pond those wolves immediately died in, although I've never heard of pond water that kill people.'
He thought for a moment.
'I've also never heard of people getting assassinated by the truck mafia and being reborn through a grotesque egg, I guess there are firsts for everything.'
He grabbed the rabbit and tossed it into the egg, thinking it would be safe there since anything wanting a bite would die from being poisoned.
'If only I could find a way to butcher it. but at least I have my egg meat.'
Thinking this, he walked toward the general direction of the pond, he normally wouldn't remember, but the dead patches of grass were really helpful. Getting to the lake, he saw the shallow waters murky and with a few more corpses added to the pile. Except they were unrecognizable.
They seemed to be dissolving, their skin hanging loosely to their muscles. And the wolves that were originally there have likely already melted since he couldn't see them anymore.
He'd needed to go to another part of the pond.
But before he could...
splash woosh!
A big commotion happened at the center of the lake.
a long neck burst through the surface of the lake glared at him. Its eyes were golden, and its scales were wide and thick. And its neck seemed thin in comparison to its length, but it was still as wide as a truck. It was a dragon, and he could only stare as the dragon spoke.
"you man thing, get your stink out of my water, I just cleaned it yesterday and here you come again stinking the place up" it was low but loud, he didn't seem to speak the words but project it.
'Woah, so big. Look at those scales, so shiny.'
"Wh-what are you looking at, whats with those eyes."
Although he was enamored by the looks of the dragon, he didn't forget-
"Hey! Get back here and get your stink out of my lake!"
-That it was a giant monster that he was seeing for the first time and that he needed to run.
He dashed into the forest, tripped, and was lifted up by the waist. The scales on its thin tail were smooth and small compared to the ones on the rest of its body.
The dragon yanked him and brought him to eye level, getting a closer look.
"Why do you come to MY lake and pollute it with your STENCH."
The dragon shook him around in frustration.
"awawawa"
"Huh!? Shit got your tongue?! Answer me brat!"
'Hmmm this is bad, isn't it?'
"Ah ah ah"
The dragon noticed he couldn't speak so he stopped shaking him and stared intently.
"*bleuh*"
And he puked all over its tail.
"…"
"…"
'I wonder if he'll let me live after that…'
