The Story of Atlantis

Atlantis is said to have been a powerful and advanced civilization that existed around 9,000 years before the time of Plato (approximately 11,000 years ago from today). Plato, the ancient Greek philosopher, first mentioned Atlantis in his dialogues "Timaeus" and "Critias." According to these dialogues:

Location: Atlantis was situated beyond the "Pillars of Hercules," which are believed to be the Strait of Gibraltar, connecting the Mediterranean Sea to the Atlantic Ocean.

Description: Atlantis was a prosperous and technologically advanced society, with a sophisticated government, laws, and architecture. It was ruled by a series of kings descended from the god Poseidon.

Hubris and Downfall: The Atlanteans became increasingly powerful and arrogant, which angered the gods. In response, Zeus, the king of the gods, decided to punish them. Atlantis ultimately met its demise in a single day and night of misfortune, sinking into the sea "in a single day and night of misfortune."
