Chapter nine
' so what do we do now' Gabriel asked, the interview with the owner of the stolen vehicle did not give us any new information.
' let's try to find the stolen vehicle and we will meet with the coroner if we will get something from the new victim ' I said.
'that makes sense'.
The next day was more rewarding, we got to the coroner's office, Mr Fernando led us to where the body was kept,'its not always a pleasure to see you' he said.
'i agree', I said, ' so what happened '.
'male 19, same injuries as the first victim, hands and feet bound by a sharp rope , died from asyphixation caused by drowning, from his hands we can tell that he fought his attackers but we couldn't find skin cells under his fingernails, it must have washed away in the river' mr fernando explained.
'has anyone come forward to identify and claim the body', I asked.
'nope, there was no means of identifying the body, no id, no phone, and his prints is not registered in the system, I think he's from out of town', Mr Fernando said.
'what are these' Gabriel asked pointing at certain marks on the deceased forearm.
'yeah, I was about to mention that, those are cigarettes marks, seems like the killer put off cigarettes on his arm, cruel".
Gabriel and I shared a look.
As we walked back to our vehicle, Gabriel said 'do you think perhaps our mysterious cabin man might be connected '.
'well, we don't have proof, we need to really find that truck, we should check the motel in town perhaps the new guy might have stayed when he came into town', I said.
'thats not a bad idea, we should do that'
'we need to report back to the Chief when we get back though ', I reminded.
'do you think we can get a warrant to search the cabin', Gabriel asked.
'we should talk to the Chief about it, I have a strong feeling he is connected to this murders '
'on another note, I'm glad we get to take a break from the murders and investigate today' .
' yeah, I know right, I'm just so excited it's Lily's birthday, you know I was in the hospital where her mum gave birth to her and now she's turning two', today is Lily's birthday and it's really exciting.
'would you want to have kids someday ', Gabriel asked.
'of course, I wanna have a mini me, but I'm in no rush'
'waiting for prince charming?'
'i mean he doesn't have to be a prince, I just want a gentleman that our goals align, and who is madly in love with me, I am a believer of fairytale romance, it can happen '.
'you are cute', Gabriel said laughing.
'thank you, but I hope that doesn't mean u don't believe in romance or love', I asked.
'oh, I do actually, I just haven't experienced it's
'neither have I, but I've seen it, my best friend... that's Lily's mother has been with her husband since highschool and they are still very much in love with each other, and that's rare to find but that's what I want, and I'm not ready to settle for less'.
'i agree, you shouldn't, I mean...you are beautiful, intelligent, perfect, any guy would love to be with you, and any guy that lets you go is a damn fool'. Gabriel said.
'i wish all the guys I've dated felt like that, I have gotten my heart broken twice in my lifetime
'can I ask what happened?'
'well, the first guy cheated, the second I thought was my soul mate, we actually got engaged but he just changed few weeks to our wedding, I tried to communicate with with him but I don't know everything was just different, I had to call off the engagement because I couldn't get married to someone that treated me like crap just before our wedding, 3 months after our break up he got married to someone else, and I'm like if he fell in love with someone else why didn't he just tell me, why did he have to do all those things first to push me away...and I'm pretty sure he started seeing her before we broke up. I was pretty hurt and just decided to move back to my home town'.
'oh, I thought u have stayed here your whole life'.
'i moved out after high school, I was in Manhattan for a while after highschool, i was still trying to figure out what i wanted for myself so i moved there, it was an experience, i like the city but this town is my home',i answered feeling nostalgic of the times i spent in the city, it had it good and bad moments as all places do.
'i would love to hear about that but now we have to go get ready for Lily's party, I am really looking forward to meeting your friends'.
Well we will see about that after you go through a round of drilling,I said to myself, I'm pretty sure my friend has a list of the questions she was going to ask. Wait a minute! Shit! My parents are going to be at the birthday party too.
