55. Conjunction of the Spheres.

Huh?

Conjunction of the Spheres?

Isn't that a natural phenomenon?

Allen was puzzled and quickly searched through the Witcher's Journal. In his mind, the Witcher's Journal appeared as an old, leather-bound book. Usually, when he summoned it with a thought, it would automatically open to the character panel page, semi-transparent, allowing him to see the real environment behind the pages. But if he closed his eyes or focused entirely, the journal would display as aged, yellowed paper. This was the true form of the Witcher's Journal. This design was quite user-friendly.

Currently, the witcher apprentice had unlocked only the character panel, inventory, and bestiary pages. So, where was "Conjunction of the Spheres" hidden?

Not finding a new page to open, Allen flipped directly to the newly obtained bestiary page. Sure enough, under the drowner's eerie humanoid close-up, there was something new: a black hole, with fiery sparks on the edges as if scorched by flames, spinning at the bottom of the page. Next to it was the inscription "Conjunction of the Spheres - Drowner."

"It really is the Conjunction of the Spheres!" Allen exclaimed.

At this moment, Allen recalled the system prompt when the Drowner King appeared:

[Ding! Bestiary entry "Drowner" unlocked. Conjunction of the Spheres - "Drowner" will appear in 54 seconds. Prepare yourself!]

"So, this page's Conjunction of the Spheres connects to the world where the Drowner King resides?" Allen mused. When he focused his thoughts on the black hole, information appeared in his mind: [Conjunction of the Spheres: Connects to other worlds, summons creatures, cooldown one month.]

The bestiary page seemed specially designed for the Conjunction of the Spheres function. "If I unlock other creatures, can I also summon beings from other worlds?" While contemplating the impact of this new function, the bestiary page showed further changes.

As Allen continued staring at the page, a progress bar slowly appeared between the drowner's close-up and the spinning black hole. This progress bar was segmented, separated by several numbers. The first number was 0, the second 200, the third 500, and the subsequent numbers blurred, though it seemed there were two more. As the progress bar fully emerged, a mechanical voice echoed in Allen's mind:

[Ding! Hunting task activated: Drowner II (Kill drowners 0/500).]

Huh?

So the Witcher's Journal's tasks are hidden within its functions. "Only hunting tasks..." Allen pondered the sudden appearance of the Drowner King after the last hunting task and looked at the 500 mark on the progress bar. "Could completing this hunting task also suddenly summon a monster?"

After ten minutes of organizing his thoughts, Allen concluded, "As long as I pay attention to the task completion time, there shouldn't be too much of a problem." This function was a good thing overall, at least providing a fixed channel for hunting large monsters. Otherwise, finding a large monster would take at least half a year, with no guarantee of success. Satisfied, Allen checked the Witcher's Journal once more before heading to the apprentice dormitory.

By the time he returned, it was late at night. Allen habitually answered the apprentices' questions before going to bed.

Today was the first day after the modification of the main potion. Vesemir had given them a rare afternoon off after the morning's sign class. So the apprentices played hard, almost dozing off during questioning. However, playing meant merely chasing each other with wooden swords. Entertainment in the witcher world was scarce. Adult witchers at Kaer Morhen only had drinking, bragging, fighting, and hunting for entertainment, let alone apprentices. But this was already satisfying enough, at least for the apprentices.

The weather was getting colder, signaling the impending Trial of the Grasses. The apprentices' joy lasted only a day. In addition to the uninterrupted monster studies and sign classes in the morning, from the second day onwards, swordsmanship and physical training classes were added in the afternoon. However, Vesemir mercifully reserved the evenings for rest and play.

Unfortunately, with the trial approaching, even someone as carefree as Hughes used the evening time for extra training. Allen, after being tested on the second afternoon and demonstrating "graduation" level skills with the Wolf School's two-handed sword and excellent stamina, was allowed to skip classes. Thus, using his spare time, Allen not only brewed a few more potions but also managed to concoct two vials of necrophage oil. However, due to the added swordsmanship and physical training classes, Vesemir had no time to take Allen out to hunt drowners, shifting combat training to sparring among the apprentices.

Unable to leave Kaer Morhen, Allen could only find a place to practice with the Conjunction of the Spheres. But he didn't mind staying in. Given the current number of drowners at Killer Lake, he might not find a group of drowners even after searching outside for half a day. Thus, another ten days passed, leaving only nine days until the Trial of the Grasses.

In the afternoon, at the gate of the ancient sea fortress, "Robin, didn't you say you were leaving at the spring equinox?" Allen reluctantly bid farewell to the youth with a backpack.

Unable to leave Kaer Morhen, the Conjunction of the Spheres' magical communication also hit a limit due to the mystic attribute. Allen developed a habit of visiting the library to read. Of course, he read serious books. Frequent visits to the library led to a friendship with Robin, a former Wolf School mage apprentice and current Ban Ard prospective teacher. Robin, despite appearing cold, was very helpful, aiding Allen in finding books.

"I received a letter from Ban Ard a few days ago saying a mage would come to Kaer Morhen today to take me away," Robin replied, more eager for the future than saddened by the farewell.

"Yes, Ban Ard, the only male mage school in the north..." Allen thought wistfully. The two, having known each other briefly, bid farewell.

At this moment, a commotion arose outside the castle gate. Allen looked over and saw a man in a black robe and hood approaching from outside. The silver hexagram on his chest gleamed in the sunlight. As he entered, he was stopped by the witcher guarding the gate. "Wait... he's here for me," Robin hurriedly explained, stepping forward.

The hooded man removed his hood, revealing a young, gentle face. Smiling at Robin, he said, "You must be Robin, mentioned by Lady Vella. Follow me in a moment." Then, without waiting for a response, he turned to the gatekeeper witcher with a serious expression and said, "Please inform Grandmaster Sol that I bring the summons from King Henselt of Kaedwen, master of the Black Unicorn."
