The Reunion

"What's going on here?" Hearing that voice, Samuel immediately let me go. "He always ruins our fun," Cody stated. "We should leave Sam." He and his gang started leaving. It was then Samuel leaned towards me and whispered, "You got lucky today. Don't let this ever happen again." He stormed off muttering words under his breath. "Hey. You aren't hurt, are you?" "I'm good." After I turned around I saw someone around my height, with blonde hair with red highlights wearing a sixth-form uniform. "That idiot always causes trouble. I'm glad I got here in time or else things would have gotten grimy. Anyway, I have Boxing Club so I'll be going now."

He was about to enter the school before I called out for him. "Hey! What's your name?" I asked grabbing his attention. "Oh yeah. I didn't really tell you. My name is Xander, Thompson. What is your name?" I couldn't believe it. My best friend from the orphanage who was separated from me for so long was right in front of me. I could feel something rolling down from both eyes as a bright smile formed on my face. "Dude. What are the waterworks for?" I ran to him and hugged him tightly. "I missed you so much, Xander. I never thought I would see you again."

"Are you? No, it couldn't be. Kevin?" I nodded my head. He then hugged me back almost suffocating me. "So you got adopted. Look at you. You grew so much and got some muscles on you. That means whoever is taking care of you did a great job." After a few more seconds we let go of each other and then parted ways after exchanging our contact info. He told me that his club ends at five. Suddenly, I could hear my phone ringing. "HI." "Kevin, Dad is here. Are you finished talking to Samuel?" "Yup. I'll head right now." I replied putting down the phone.

I walked to the parking lot and saw Dad and Katie waiting for me. "Someone's in a good mood. Did you get your first kiss?" Dad teasingly asked. "Nothing like that. I just met up with an old friend from the orphanage." "You mean Xander?" Katie wondered. "Yeah. He helped me out with the situation." "I'd love to meet him. Right, Dad?" "Your aunt told me stories about the two of y'all. He can come but let me know so I can bring your aunt over so she can see him again." "No problem." With that, we headed into the car and headed home.

After finishing up some homework and studying for a bit, I went to Katie's room and saw two other girls with her. "Nice timing Kevin," she stated. "HI, I am Bianca." said the short, dark-skinned girl with long braided hair. "I'm Emily but you can call me Emi if you like." added by short Asian girl with short black hair. I returned the greetings and we got to work. We discussed what the song would be about. We decided to make a love song called In My Life. Bianca and Emily would harmonize the chorus and provide adlibs while Katie would do the rest.

The practice until it got late and I was pleased with what I was hearing. We needed to make final adjustments to the song and they needed more practice but other than they did well. "I'm going to go with Dad and drop them home. Will you be okay being by yourself, Kevin?" "Don't sweat it. I'll probably fix some of the lyrics and relax so I'll be fine." "Okay then. See you in a bit." She left and suddenly the house that was filled with amazing vocals was radio silent. I went to my room and picked up my phone. I was still waiting for Xander to either call or message.

It was getting late and I figured he was tired from practice. I put my phone on the charger and lay down on my bed. I then got my computer and started editing the lyrics. I was interrupted by the ringing of my phone. At first I thought it was Dad or Katie calling. I put down the computer and realized it was Xander. I had a big smile on my face and eagerly answered the phone. "HI, Xander. What's up?" I greeted. "Nothing much. Just tired from boxing practice. What are you up to?" "I'm just editing a song that I wrote for our school's talent show."

He laughed so hard I could tell tears were rolling down. "You singing. I can't wait. This talent show won't be boring to say the least." he said refusing to contain his laughter. "Ha ha. Very funny idiot. I'm not the one that will be singing. I'm just helping with the lyrics." "Oh! That makes a ton of sense. Then who are you helping out?" "My sister and her friends." "Sounds cute. I'll definitely be there then. You may not see me in the crowd but I'll make my presence known. You can count on that." "I don't know whether to be grateful or worried. Anyways, thanks for always being there for me Xander."

"Well, it's the least I can do after I did leave you behind in the orphanage. Speaking of. Have you seen Mrs. Brown since you left?" "You'll never believe me but I got adopted by her brother." He was stunned at first but expressed how thankful he was that someone dependable adopted me. "He said that if you want to hang out I can bring you over but he wants me to let him know in advance so he can surprise Mrs. Brown. Sounds cool?" "Of course bro! I haven't seen her in years. I'd like to thank her for not only taking care of me but helping raise you. Speaking of which. Have you been exercising?"

"Yeah! We go to the gym as a family. Why?" "Not only are you tall but you got some muscles too. Why didn't you defend yourself against that prick Samuel?" "I don't like to cause trouble." "Figures. You've always been that way but that doesn't mean to let others treat you like shit. You know what. I'm gong to teach you how to box." "Wait wait wait wait wait. Why are you going to do that for?" "Everyone should know at least one kind of self defense. Plus I get to spar with my good old friend, so why not?" "Fine but I can't come to boxing club at school. I'm busy with book club." "No worries. I got my own personal boxing ring at home and my father is a retired boxer. I'm sure that he wouldn't mind helping a friend of mine out."

"If that' is the case then I'll gladly take you up on that offer." "Good. Anyways, I got some homework to do so I'll catch you later." "No problem. See you later!" The call came to an end. I'm glad I got reunited with him. I opened up the computer again and worked on fixing the lyrics until dad and Katie came home. I then took a well deserved rest.
