23- Contract Breach

— Kyra, you must be proud of your triumph, right? — A deep voice said next to me.

— I must be going crazy, I'm even hearing voices now. — I said without turning around.

— You're such a joker! — The voice said again.

— What are you doing here?

— I came to see what you're up to.

— Well, if I recall correctly, I wasn't the one who became a newspaper headline!

— You have a point of being mad, but did you have to come to a nightclub?

— I don't need your permission, Dante! Besides, I'm single and can do whatever the "heck" I want.

— We have a contract, don't forget that.

— We had a contract. Since you made the headlines all lovey-dovey with Lola, that breaks the contract. I haven't been with anyone here.

— And you won't! I still don't want to cancel the contract.

— That's not your choice, it's mine. You're free now, Dante. Go take care of Lola and leave me alone.

Dante grabbed my arm and pulled me into the VIP area he was in, then closed the door. There was no one there except the two of us.

— I can hear you better in here. The loud music was driving me crazy! — He said.

— I know it was the music. — I shrugged. — You dragged me in here for what?

— I'm not with Lola. That happened because I wanted to understand my feelings. I bumped into her by chance and wanted to see if I still felt anything for her.

— What's that got to do with me? — I said, really annoyed.

— You showed me I'm not in love with her.

— Seriously? Every time something happens, you run to her. You're the most confused person I've ever seen in my life! You're even more than me.

— I'm not that unstable.

— No? Then tell me why you're in a nightclub after being caught with your ex?

— Nick told me you were here.

— Weren't you here earlier with Nick?

— Yes, I was... Nick got dumped by his fiancée and needed support.

— So, why did you come to me? Weren't you the one who ended everything today?

— It wasn't quite like that. I admit I haven't been very good at choosing the right words to talk to you. Especially since you scared me yesterday.

— I scared you? You're such an idiot. — I said angrily.

— Kyra, I desire you, but I can't take that from you...

— What are you talking about? — I asked, not understanding.

— Your virginity... You should do that with the right person at the right time...

— Go to hell! You don't control my life, let alone who I sleep with.

— Look at it from my side; I've never been involved with a student before. This is all new to me, and I want you to find someone special who can give you what I can't.

— Can't or won't give me? How many more excuses will you come up with to not continue with me, while continuing with me? That sounded pretty confusing, by the way. — I said, heading toward the door.

— I really don't want to continue, but I also don't want to let you go.

— So, you want a "side piece" to use when the tire (Lola) isn't available, right?

— Putting it that way makes me sound like a monster. I don't want Lola, I went after her just to see if I still liked her.

— Dante, do whatever you want, but leave me alone! — I opened the door and was about to leave, but I felt Dante grab my arm.

I looked at the hand holding me and locked eyes with him.

— What now? — I said, trying to pull my hand away, in vain.

— That's what I love about you!

Saying that, Dante pulled me close, put one hand on my waist and the other on the back of my neck, and kissed me. At first, I tried to pull back and get away, but he didn't let me. It started off slow, as if he wanted to savor my lips. He gently pushed me against the wall. His hands started roaming my body, touching my butt and squeezing it. I was in a daze, and Dante deepened the kiss even further. I had never let anyone touch me like that, I knew it wasn't right, but with him, I couldn't help myself.

— This really isn't the place for this. — Dante said in a husky voice in my ear, interrupting the kiss.

I still hadn't regained my sanity. I leaned on him, took about 15 deep breaths, looked at him, and said:

— This really isn't the place for this, but I don't want to continue with this! Regarding the contract, I'm free from you, and now you take on Lola and remove me from your life!

Dante widened his eyes in shock, and I seized the opportunity to run out of there. I rushed down the stairs, looked for João, and saw him still talking to the guy in the black jacket at the bar. Did the same with Lucy and saw her still chatting at the table with Nick. I messaged both of them to let them know I was leaving, hailed a taxi, and got out of there. I couldn't stand another minute there.

The taxi arrived, and I got in without looking back. I gave my address to the driver and started sobbing. How could Dante be so insensitive, arrogant, and horrible? I knew I had fallen for him, but being humiliated like this made no sense. I knew I would get hurt, I just didn't expect to be the second choice. I gave up; I can't compete with Lola, not only because of her looks but also because of the feelings Dante had for her. I refused to believe that when someone loves, they hurt, humiliate, or even leave you as a second option. I was fed up with it all!

I arrived home, paid the taxi driver, and rushed inside. I just wanted to take a shower, cry, and get rid of that whole feeling. I took a shower and went to bed.

I woke up on Saturday morning to knocks on the door. I got up not quite sure where I was, opened the door, and saw Dante standing in front of me.

"Damn it," I thought.

— We need to talk! — He said.

Since I didn't want to, I tried to close the door as quickly as I could (half-asleep), but he put his foot between the door and the frame, and I couldn't finish what I wanted to do.

— I know you're completely right, but we really need to resolve this. — He said as he walked in.

— Damn it! You've ruined my peace. — I said, closing the door.

— As if you would have done anything differently. Don't you understand that you've messed up my life? And I'm not sure how to deal with all this change.

— I've already told you, I'm not your second choice.

— Kyra, be honest, do you feel something for me?

— Yes, I won't deny it. And you, all-mighty Dante? — I said sarcastically.

Dante stared at me, his expression seemed sad, and he ended up looking away. He seemed distant, staring at my balcony. I already knew the answer, knew that he didn't have feelings for me, so I grabbed the contract from the drawer and without waiting for a response, I tore up the contract.

— I don't want to hear your answer, just consider this a breakup and please, leave my apartment! — I said, holding back tears.

— But...

— No "buts," just leave my life and let me be. I know you love Lola and that I'm not the woman for you. I don't want to be a part of this anymore. — I said, interrupting him.

— Let me explain. — He tried.

— No, I fell in love with you, and just as easily as I fell in love, I want to forget you.

— Kyra... I...

— You yourself said yesterday that you don't want to date me, that you've never gotten involved with a student, and that you don't want to get involved, so let me make it easier for you. Just get out of my life, please!

— When you calm down, you know my number. I want to explain things to you. — Saying that, Dante left my apartment.

My Saturday was just beginning, but it was rainy, with a broken heart, and a thousand liters of tears.
