Chapter 27 The Curse and the Existence The witch hat calmed down and relaxed on a table near Kailey. However, a sudden thought crossed its mind: 'What would happen to that girl if her mana ran out?' Fearing the worst. The hat urgently rushed out of the chamber. Before leaving, it summoned the slime that had previously encased Kailey inside a test tube as a temporary measure to ensure the girl's safety. Alone in the room, Kailey fought to keep her consciousness and stay awake. Through her long and arduous years of learning to control her mana, she was staving off the drain. However, the inevitable exhaustion of concentration would soon catch up with her. Within Kailey's body, parts of her soul were divided and reintegrated with mana as a substitute. The Existence devoured the freed soul fragments and the mana flowing into it from within Kailey. The soul fragments it devours act as a blueprint, and the mana it absorbs as the soul's power for the Existence. But all this came at a cost for Kailey. The amount of mana needed to convert to soul power was enormous. However, due to the rampant consumption of mana from both the Existence and the curse, Kailey became increasingly exhausted as her body couldn't generate more mana. Ten minutes whizzed by in silence, with Kailey's concentration waning. The witch hat finally reappeared, this time carrying an uncountable number of relics, each holding a surprising amount of mana. The hat carefully placed the relics around Kailey, ready to be used. After finishing all the preparations, the hat reexamined Kailey to assess her present condition. Kailey's condition was stable, but the hat found that Kailey's mana reserves were declining. The witch hat began activating a few relics around Kailey, expertly manipulating their mana to be absorbed into her. Generally, the body cannot absorb external mana without perceiving it as a threat. However, some items and spells can rejuvenate mana, such as potions, wild herbs, or revitalization spells. In Kailey's case, she has two obscure things currently feeding on her mana: the Existence within her and her curse. The Existence pulls in and eats the mana surrounding Kailey. Her curse, however, absorbs the mana within Kailey's body and then expels it for the world to soak up. These two factors create a balance that allows Kailey's soul to devour external mana. Unknowingly, the curse has helped Kailey and the Existence within her.
