The Ancestor

Chapter 102 The Ancestor

Dahdin was unsure what to think, so he left the safety of his spot and cautiously walked toward the mist to scrutinize it. To his surprise, it had a familiar smell that felt calming and soothing. Dahdin could sense that the mist was hiding something familiar, something he had been searching for. As he continued to examine the mist, it crept closer, preparing to devour him as it bared its fangs after sensing that Dahdin had let his guard down due to its feigned weakness. Just as it was about to consume Dahdin, the mist abruptly dissipated, illuminated by a radiant beam of light. Dahdin instinctively closed his eyes to shield them from the brightness, and when he opened them again, he realized someone else was present with him.

The creature was a wolf that resembled Dahdin, but when the creature spoke, Dahdin realized it was, in truth, a being far greater than himself. "I suppose I'm on time," it said in an ancient voice. Dahdin could feel the ancient power in the wolf's voice, even though it spoke briefly and was oddly similar to his own. Dahdin prepared for an attack, fleeing, gaining distance from the being. However, the being did not attempt to fight him and was not offended by his reaction, patiently waiting for him to understand and ask questions.

After trying to comprehend why such a being would choose to communicate with him, Dahdin finally asked, "Why would a great one such as you come to speak with me? The being appeared pleased to hear Dahdin's question and responded, "I've heard about certain events that are happening around you, and I would like to offer you my assistance. All I ask in return is that you allow me to see through your eyes. That's all."

Dahdin was perplexed by how the being knew about recent events that had taken place over just a few days. He was also uncertain how the being was intending to provide their aid. Dahdin wanted to ask why the being wished to witness the world through his eyes, but he hesitated, not wanting to disrespect such an ancient and powerful being. He then noticed something about the being in front of him. It resembled him closely, but there were slight differences here and there. 'Could he be an ancestor? Dahdin thought.

As if sensing Dahdin's thoughts, the being answered. "You are one of my descendants. And for why I wish to see through your eyes, it is simply because the world above is not as entertaining as the one down here." Dahdin sensed that the ancestor was withholding something but chose not to press the matter for fear of retribution. He thanked the ancestor for answering his unspoken questions and asked, "Great ancestor, why are we in this space?"
