Chapter 118

When Summer opened the door and looked inside, she was momentarily stunned.

Logan was not lying in bed this time; instead, he was sitting on the edge of the bed, pulling on his pants. He turned and saw Summer as she stood there.

"…"

Their eyes met in this awkward situation.

Summer didn't panic, didn't make a fuss, nor did she scream. She silently looked away, raised her hand to cover her eyes, pretended she hadn't seen anything, gently closed the door, and quickly ran back to her room.

She heard the door slam shut from the next room.

Logan: "…"

In her room, Summer sat down on the edge of her bed. She covered her face with her hands, her forehead leaning against the edge of the desk, and her cheeks and ears turned red.

After a while, she heard Logan's voice from outside the door, still weak, asking, "Is the gate of the school locked?"

Hearing his voice, Summer quickly lifted her head, steadied her voice, and said, "The main gate isn't locked, but the office is."

Logan responded with a "good," then turned and left.

Summer hesitated for a moment, stood up from the bed, and peeked through the door crack to see Logan heading towards the school. She guessed he was probably going to the restroom, and she subconsciously sighed with relief. Taking a deep breath to calm herself, she fanned her face with her hands.

Feeling more composed, Summer opened the door and went out. She went to the cellar to get two sweet potatoes, then returned to the kitchen to cook.

Thinking that Logan was ill and might not have much appetite, she decided to make something tasty. Besides sweet potatoes, she took out two eggs and some flour, which she rarely used.

She cleaned and peeled the sweet potatoes, saving the peels for the chickens. She cut the sweet potatoes into small cubes and put them in boiling water to cook.

While the sweet potatoes were boiling, Logan returned from outside, coming directly to the kitchen instead of his dormitory. Seeing him enter the kitchen, Summer's face involuntarily heated up at the thought of what had just happened.

She forced herself to stay calm, pretending nothing had happened, and smiled at Logan. "The kitchen is smoky; it's not good for you to inhale it when you're sick. You should rest. I'll call you when the food is ready, or I'll bring it to you."

Logan didn't leave as she suggested. Instead, he walked over to her. Acting as if nothing had happened, he looked down at her and said, "I'm still a bit cold. I want to warm up by the fire. Let me take over."

Summer thought about how he had a fever and was indeed cold, so she stepped aside, saying, "Oh," and let him take her place at the stove.

Logan sat down behind the stove, the firelight reddening his face. He still looked unwell, his eyes dull as he watched the fire, occasionally adding more wood.

Seeing him like this, Summer decided not to dwell on what had just happened. She looked at him for a moment and then asked with concern, "Are you feeling any better now?"

Logan, staring at the fire, replied, "Yeah, much better."

When someone is sick, they often don't feel like talking. Thinking that Logan was still feeling unwell, Summer didn't say anything else.

She stood by the stove, waiting for the sweet potatoes to cook. She fished them out, drained them, and put them in a large bowl, adding the eggs and flour she had prepared. Mixing them well, she emptied the pot of hot water, brushed a thin layer of oil, and placed small cakes of the sweet potato mixture in the pot to fry. Once they were golden and fragrant, she put them on a plate.

As the last sweet potato cake was placed on the plate, Summer turned to Logan, saying, "The cakes are done. You can put out the fire and come eat."

Logan extinguished the fire, washed his hands, and sat down at the table. Summer pushed the plate of cakes towards him, saying, "I was worried you wouldn't have an appetite, so I made these. Try them and see if you like them."

Logan didn't say anything, just picked up a cake with his chopsticks and took a bite. After chewing a few times and swallowing, he looked up at Summer.

Summer watched him expectantly and asked, "Is it good?"

Logan nodded, "Yeah."

Summer smiled, "Then eat while they're hot. Eat more so you can get better faster."

She also picked up a cake and took a big bite. As she was chewing, she suddenly heard Logan say, "We should keep our distance to avoid any misunderstandings or complications."

Hearing this, Summer slowed her chewing. She looked at Logan for a moment, then quickly swallowed her food, sincerely replying, "Oh, I'm sorry about earlier. I didn't knock because I didn't want to disturb you if you were sleeping. I won't go into your room again… I mean, I'll knock next time."

Logan responded, "I'll repay you for what you've done today in another way."

Summer nodded, still looking down, and replied, "Alright."
