For What Purpose?

THE door was pushed open, and Selena walked in, her gaze resting immediately on the black curtain that divided the massive room. 

"Have you found anything yet?" the man on the other side asked roughly.  

A shiver traveled down her spine, but she drew a soft breath and composed herself. "N-not yet, Alpha."  

"It's been three weeks now." 

"I'm aware." 

"And you haven't found out anything? What is my son hiding from me?" 

"N-not yet, alpha." Selena fearfully dropped to her knees. "Just-" 

"What are you here for then? To feed me nothing but your incompetence?"  

A cold sweat broke out over her forehead, and her chest throbbed, aching with each constriction. What was this suddenly growing coldness around them? It was worse than what she would often feel from Valeric. 

Eyes flickered rapidly, and she looked up, saying, "I want to visit Valeric's house." 

"Oh?" A pause. "And for what?"
