"You dare not tell us huh Xiao Ming!" Obviously not happy hearing his son asking Yichen to keep it a secret from them. Mama Xie was crossing her arms with a distorted expression on her face.
"M-mom?!"
Obviously surprised at her sudden appearance Xie Mingze suddenly started hiccuping.
"I just don't want to worry you."
"I know what you're planning, you're going to tell me you have a party with the theatre members and would sleep over at Yichen's place."
Bullseyes!
Xie Mingze felt like his mother was a mind reader, she completely decoded what's in his mind.
"I'm not a mind reader. You're just too easy to read."
"!"
Even that was read by her. Mingze doesn't want to think anymore, he was like an open book to his parents. They knew him too well.
"FYI young man, you haven't been going home and have been staying the night with Yichen. A lot."
This time Papa Xie couldn't help but shaking his head.
"I know you just kindled your affection and had been busy with ehem… Making love with each other, showing affection, but son, we are family. When something happens to you we have the right to know too."
His father's words would have touched him, if not for the making love part. They haven't even touched each other's hands.
Wait they did, when he thought he was going to die from pain.
"We haven't done those things…"
"It's okay, I'm a man too. I know you guys have erm needs."
Papa Xie felt a bit awkward talking about his son's love life and then passed the baton back to mama Xie.
Fen Yichen, who was silent in the corner, noticed that Mingze was turning red from embarrassment and stepped in.
"Auntie Xie, the paperworks should be done so we can leave. Only then could we take Ming back home."
This time the Xie couple left. Hai Zheyan who was left completely unforgotten in the corner decided to make his presence known.
"Yo how's the feet brother?"
"I can't feel shit." Mingze replied and rolled his eyes in the process.
Trying to lighten the mood, Hai Zheyan pulled the DSLR from his bag. He wanted to show off the video he took long before everything, but a lot of things happened.
"We were supposed to watch this together, but oh well. I'll post it on my drive first and give you the link afterwards."
"Thanks Zheyan."
It was Xie Mingze's first theatre show as the protagonist and as his bestest friend of course he brought out the big camera to commemorate the event.
Feeling a bit better, he looked at his feet wrapped like a mummy. Obviously, he couldn't walk with those on.
He could pretend to be strong and try to jump like a bunny all the way down to the parking lot, but he doesn't have the will to do so.
With nothing else to do he checked his phone.
His usual quiet messenger app was flooded with messages. All of them are asking if he was okay, while the other was congratulating him with the successful event.
The people congratulating him were obviously unaware of what happened. Mingze felt a shiver down his spine thinking the culprit was one of these people, pretending to care about him.
Mingze felt warmth as a big jacket was put over him. He turned back and saw Zheyan putting it over him.
"Don't catch a cold, that would be too tragic for you." Obviously, Zheyan was teasing his friend to lighten the mood.
"You should think about how you would pass your singing performance. "
It was no secret he was tone dead. Zheyan was really doomed. There's a big chance of failing professor Yan's subject because practicum was a big part of their grades.
"Don't you know the power of ABC? I can sing the alphabet and see this through."
"Zheyan, the professor already see through your schemes. He already announced long ago that we can't sing nursery rhymes for this one." Yichen was the one who completely shattered his dreams.
"Omg, Mingze what should I do? If I failed my father would force me to re-enroll in the business department. I don't want to be a zombie. Only Yichen can survive that hell!"
It was funny since it wasn't something that happened to him. Mingze tried his best to restrain himself but the laugh keeps coming out.
"I'm sorry brother, I'm just a patient about to get a cold."
Hai Zheyan froze on the spot. He'd been played. Only Mingze could coach him though.
While Zheyan was busy being frozen. Mama Xie arrived with Papa Xie.
"Come on, we should go home."
They finished with all the hospital procedures and already bought all of the antibiotics Mingze would need.
A nurse was with them pushing a wheelchair. With Fen Yichen's help they carefully put Xie Mingze in the wheelchair.
"For sure the food is already cold at home, but we could reheat it. If you guys haven't had your dinner yet you should eat with us."
The evening was a bit eventful, luckily the food could always be reheated and their son's life wasn't in danger.
It was time to go home.
Fen Yichen road pushed the wheelchair to the parking lot. "I'll have dinner with Auntie. The food you make is always good."
"Me too! I'll join you guys!" once again, Hai Zheyan fixed his camera back to its bag and followed them.
"Zheyan, thank you for taking us here. I'll cook your favourite food the next time you come."
"Auntie, I like your squash soup and fried chicken combo. I'll bring the ingredients myself."
He knew the Xie family wasn't that well off and felt a bit ashamed eating a lot of their food.
"Don't worry about that, silly child." mama Xie laughed and lightly hit Zheyan's shoulders.
"Eat if you want to eat. Your auntie Xie would always be happy if you youngins are visiting." Papa Xie said with a small smile on his face.
