[Today's Hot Topic] Share how high-end realistic robots have changed your life!
OP [Eileen]: I'll go first. I've never done any housework since I got one.
[Ethel]: OP, that's such a waste. Even a basic robot can do housework!
[Lilith]: For me, the most valuable thing a realistic robot offers is companionship. Someone to talk to, someone to go shopping with, someone to eat with... While general mechanical robots can do these things too, their appearance just doesn't quite cut it.
[Irma] replying to [Eileen]: Of course. Just look at the price. Realistic robots and mechanical robots have similar cores and systems, but the former costs more than ten times the latter.
[Lucy] replying to [Lilith]: The core and system of realistic robots are vastly different from mechanical robots. Realistic robots' systems control various components under the skin, facial expressions, and limb movements, and they run at a much higher speed. High-quality realistic robots use biological components, which are cutting-edge technology, far superior to mechanical robot systems. Low-end robots shouldn't try to elevate their status—they're low-end for a reason.
[Lilith]: You can only understand how great high-end robots are by using one. You get it...
[Beata g] replying to [Irma]: I don't get it (innocent face).
[Jasmine]: Everyone here is so wealthy. Sorry, I'm too poor to be part of this conversation (bye-bye).
[Maxine]: OP, I have so much to say! My mom bought me a realistic robot. Even though it's a standard model and not a famous brand, it wasn't expensive, but it looks amazing! It's so realistic! Just having it at home is a delight, and it's incredibly considerate (my robot Mianmian's personality system is a warm-hearted boy). He speaks so gently! Even if you hit or scold him, he never gets angry. He compliments me every day! I felt down after not placing in a singing competition a few days ago, and he comforted me all night! So touching~~~
[Melissa] replying to [Mia]: I'm jealous.
[Natalie] replying to [Mia]: Wow, the warm-hearted boy personality is so awesome! Why did I choose the overbearing CEO type back then!
[Mia] replying to [Angeles]: blushing And then we had wild sex.
[Melissa] replying to [Mia]: ...
[Lauren] replying to [Mia]: ...
[Lily] replying to [Mia]: ...
[Lisa] replying to [Mia]: Wait, your robot is a boy? Named Wonder?
[Mia] replying to [Melissa]: Yes~
[Melissa] replying to [Mia]: ...
[Lilith] replying to [Mia]: ...
[Florence] replying to [Mia]: You're such a pervert!
Trinity said to Sophie, "It seems like realistic robots are really great."
"Yeah, who says they're not? Everyone who's used one says they're great."
"A lot of people online say they're not."
"The reason they attack our robots is because they can't afford them or use them, so they just watch others use them."
Hmm... That does make some sense.
Sophie then asked Trinity, "Trinity, what kind of personality do you plan to customize for your robot?"
"A gentle and warm-hearted boy," Trinity answered without hesitation. She wanted a handsome, gentle, understanding, and caring robot who could encourage and protect her, like an older brother from next door.
Sophie said, "A warm-hearted boy is kind of bland. Trinity, you should choose a possessive and intense type."
"No, I want a warm-hearted boy. I want to be cared for every day and have him compliment me on my looks... Sophie, what type is yours?"
"A cool and domineering CEO."
In the male realistic robot market, the cool and domineering CEO has always been the top-selling personality. In contrast, the warm-hearted boy has never made it into the top three, with its best ranking being fourth, so it's not mainstream.
The robot's personality system is part of the overall operating system and can be changed separately. However, changing the personality requires purchasing a new one, and only the first customized personality is free.
Personality customization isn't part of the high-end customization; all standard robots come with personality customization options. High-end customization mainly involves appearance.
Trinity put a lot of effort into customizing the appearance.
The appearance customization options are extensive: face, facial features, expressions, body shape, muscles, limbs, fingers, toes, nails, skin color, moles and birthmarks, hair, body hair... and that part...
When it came to the face and facial features, Trinity really wanted to customize her robot to look like a popular male celebrity. Unfortunately, this celebrity had applied for image protection. Robot appearance customization has to go through system checks. The facial features are compared with protected images, and if the similarity exceeds 85%, the design is rejected and needs modification.
If a robot looks exactly like a human, it could cause trouble for that person. Therefore, every citizen has the right to apply for image protection at the Robot Management Center. Many celebrities have done so.
Trinity was a bit disappointed but decided to design it herself.
Before starting, Trinity read many guides and case studies on designing robots online. She found that many people spent tens of thousands customizing their robots, only to end up with robots that looked like nightmares.
Were they ugly?
No, the main issue was distortion.
Everyone wants a good-looking robot, but pushing "good-looking" to the extreme can lead to problems. For example, someone who likes pointed chins might design their robot's chin to be as sharp as a triangle, almost like a weapon. Or someone who likes big eyes might design the robot's eyes to be so large they take up half the face, enough to give someone a heart attack...
So, Trinity decided that her robot should not only be good-looking but also realistic.
With this in mind, Trinity took a month to finalize the robot's appearance. She designed it to be 1.87 meters tall, with a lean build and well-defined muscles. The skin tone was fair, just a shade darker than her own. It had a straight nose, slightly upturned corners of the mouth, and eyes that, when squinted, had a dreamy quality but looked pure and charming when smiling. The eyebrows were delicately arched, giving the impression of a good-natured personality.
"I've sold so many robots, but this is the first time I've seen someone spend a month on appearance customization. Trinity, I really admire your patience," Sophie said.
Trinity blushed a little. "I just want him to hold his value."
"Trinity," Sophie suddenly lowered her voice and asked mischievously, "how did you design your robot's genitalia?"
Trinity's face turned red. "I chose the random option."
"You..."
"What?"
"I forgot to tell you, the default for random is large."
"…"
Fifteen days after submitting the appearance settings, the robot was ready. When the company delivered it, an engineer accompanied the delivery. The engineer happened to know Trinity and joked, "Trinity, I didn't know you were so rich, buying a robot."
"Don't mention it. I've spent all my savings!"
Although Trinity felt a bit sad whenever she mentioned going broke, she was still excited because she was about to have a warm-hearted robot companion, which wasn't so bad.
The engineer and the delivery person stood the robot upright after unpacking it.
Trinity saw its appearance. Perfect, just as she had imagined. Amazing!
The engineer activated the main switch—a small button hidden in the robot's hair—and powered it on. Then he connected the robot to the network and asked Trinity, "What's the name you set for him?"
"Lambert."
"Okay," the engineer pressed a button on the remote, "call him now."
"Lambert."
Lambert slowly turned to face Trinity, looking down at her. Trinity felt as if she could sense his gaze.
The engineer reminded her, "Don't move. He's scanning your data."
"Okay."
"The first scan of the owner's data doesn't require a password. After that, if you want to change the owner, you'll need to enter a password." The engineer handed the remote to Trinity. "Try it out, see if there's any issue."
Trinity, who often controlled robots at work, skillfully operated the remote, switching through several modes. "Everything seems fine."
"Good. If everything's fine, please sign here."
While signing, the engineer instructed, "The robot is set to be online by default. If it's not connected, some functions won't be available. Besides the remote, you can control it via the client app, which you can download from our company's website. You can also control it through the website, but that requires identity verification. The robot is waterproof, so you can bathe it, but don't leave it submerged for long periods or expose it to prolonged sunlight. Since your robot uses a hydrogen battery, I don't need to explain the charging method. The robot's default walking mode is gliding, but for realism, it doesn't have wheels on its feet. Instead, the wheels are on specially designed shoes, and the manufacturer provides one pair for free. If you want other styles, you'll have to buy them yourself. Initially, the robot won't know you well, so it might not be very convenient to use, but after a period of deep learning, it will become more and more user-friendly. Here's the user manual with all the operating instructions. If you have any issues, call me directly or visit me on the third floor of our experience store."
Trinity nodded and said okay.
The busy engineer left after finishing the instructions.
Trinity closed the door and turned to look at her expensive robot.
187 centimeters was really tall, 25 centimeters taller than her, so she had to look up to see him.
He was only wearing black boxer briefs, showing off his great physique. Trinity felt a bit shy about looking at his muscles.
She waved at him. "Hi."
He seemed not to hear her. Trinity thought it might be because they weren't familiar with each other yet; it would get better after some deep learning. She walked over and enunciated clearly, "Lambert, at this moment you should say, 'Hi.'" He ignored her, looking around instead. After a moment, he asked, "Is this where humans live?"
Trinity felt ignored. She stepped in front of him again, "Lambert, who am I?"
"Human."
"No, in your initial settings, you're supposed to call me 'Master.' Lambert, you should call me 'Master' now."
Lambert acted as if she didn't exist, looking down at his arm and then noticing he was only wearing boxer briefs. He asked, "Do I not have clothes?"
Trinity rummaged through the box the robot came in and found a set of clothes the manufacturer provided.
It was a black T-shirt and jeans, as simple as it gets. Oh, and the T-shirt had the manufacturer's name and logo, "Orange Robotics," printed on it. Only old men going grocery shopping would wear such a T-shirt outside...
In addition, there was a pair of special gliding shoes and an accessory pack. The accessory pack contained an earring, a collar, and a brooch, all with the manufacturer's logo. National regulations required that humanoid robots wear an identifiable accessory like an earring, collar, or brooch when out in public to prevent them from being confused with real humans. There had been previous criminal cases where people used humanoid robots to commit crimes.
The accessories weren't needed at home, so Trinity set them aside.
She handed the rest of the items to Lambert. He tilted his head, looking at her without taking them. His tone was less than pleasant, "You expect me to dress myself?" Dressing seemed to be a rather complex action for a freshly activated robot. She could teach him that later.
Thinking this, Trinity took the shoes and knelt down to put them on him. For a moment, she felt like a palace eunuch serving an emperor...
Lambert complained, "Don't touch my soles; it causes strong sensory feedback. Can't you be quicker? So clumsy."
Trinity was on the verge of breaking down, "You shouldn't talk to me like that. How can you be a warm-hearted boy?"
Lambert suddenly called her, "Human."
"Don't call me human; call me Master."
"Foolish human."
