Chapter 3

After 3 spells, creating new ones became slightly easier. What is important, is that Dezen thought of a new way to create them - It treats spells like puzzles, separating them into many pieces. Those which are already existing, can be copied and used in other spells, making creating and modifying them faster. This, however, is very complicated and needs a lot of knowledge about structure of spells, thus Dezen won't try it in the nearest future. Luckily, he also thought of a way to improve the simplest and primal way of creating them, what he tried doing.

Surprisingly, it took him only 3 hours to do this, but it speeded up the process of creating spells by around 2%.

Beside creating spells, Dezen doesn't train as a mage, this is because making them also works as one, deepening his mana reserves and improving his control over it.

Thanks to his development, he could and did revive more creatures. First was second tree and it took him only 3 days. Next were fox, rats and bugs, the latter became such a large group, that they finally started being a threat in battle.

The next spells he created are from reaming aspects. To protect himself, he made a spell creating black armor on his body, it can't be yet compared to steel, but it's light and moving in it isn't harder in any way. He gave it a simple name, Black Armor. Next in line was healing. Surprisingly easy, he created spell giving inhuman regenerative abilities. Curious if it works only him, he wanted to test it with Alex.

After explaining to Alex what he wants to do, he agreed and cut his finger a little, letting blood flow, then Dezen used this spell and with joy watched as Alex's skin healed with the same speed as when he uses it on himself.

Seeing it, Alex commented. - With this... You surely will be valued. Strong healing spell with low requirements, everyone would want it... How will you name it?

- I'm bad at coming up with names, so I'll just call it Fast Regeneration.

They both started to talk for a while, before Alex asked. - Isn't it a little puzzling, that necromancy, which seems to be connected with death, has so good healing abilities?

- For me, it's not. I created necromancy in hopes of being able to create "golems" whose bodies can regenerate, so its healing capabilities should be high, we even saw it earlier, when reviving bugs easily healed their heavy injuries. What is really puzzling, is why undead resemble more dead than alive, while there is nothing what should cause it.

Alex were silent for a moment, then asked. - So, what spell will you create now?

- Healing, but much more complicated than Fast Regeneration. It'll cure diseases.

- I wonder if necromancy is so good at healing, no I chose wrong words, is necromancy only good at healing, or can it affect bodies in another way, like make them permanently immune to certain diseases, make them stronger, faster or more durable?

- I thought about it and I can't be sure, my powers and possibilities are too little to test it now, but I will surely do it in the future... - Dezen started to talk about his plans, and they both began discussing, before going back to things they were doing earlier.

Creating a second healing spell took him a lot of time, but for Dezen it was worth it, since he always feared plagues and sicknesses. This time he thought about a little better name and called it Fallen Disease.

Next spells are those which he lacks, that means from searching and movement aspects. First searching spell he created just makes his sight better, not only using it he sees clearly from further distances, but it also grants him better vision in dark and bright places. Dezen called it Far Sight. When creating the movement spell, at first he thought about his conversation with Alex. As for now, he can't change the body permanently, but doing it for periods of time longer than 30 minutes would be good too. What he wanted to obtain is making his legs stronger, faster, so much that he would reach inhuman speed.

Unfortunately he failed, but during creating this spell, he thought of something better. Instead of improving part of his body, he will improve his stamina, what will let him sprint for longer distances and will be useful in battles. Even now, he can imagine various situations in which he can use it.

This time, creating spell succeeded. He called it Better Stamina.

After creating those spells, Dezen stopped making new ones and focused on magical training. At first, he was only using them, but when it started to become his reflex, Dezen started sparring with his undead. This improved not only his battle skills, but also his undead.

After over a month, he mastered his spells to a satisfying point. During this time he created one new spell, which changes shapes of undead. He specially created it for undead trees, so they can do Dezen's and Alex's work. It made their lives more comfortable and granted them more free time, which Dezen used to develop as a necromancer. Now he is going to create a new set of spells and modify the reviving spell. This modification will turn revival spell into an area spell, making revival of bugs easier and faster. The reason for doing this, is that their number rise with every day, mostly because he uses them to protect animals and plants from insects, and they do it by killing them.

Before modification, spell Revival looked like green fire burning on his body. To revive something, Dezen had to touch it with this fire, now he can throw it, and dead beings on the area it covers will become undead.

He started a new cycle of creating spells from offensive one's.

The first spell he made, creates long grey-black spikes, which are destined for long distance attacks. Alternatively, it can be used as a spear. Dezen named it Grey-Black Spike. The second is area attack creating green fire, looking like a fog. While it doesn't move fast, if Dezen is using it constantly, it will quickly grow. Spell Revival can be added to it, whether additional mana is poured to it. He called it Fire Fog. Next was a hiding spell, making him odorless, what will prevent animals like wolves from finding him by smell. Called it Dezen No Odor. The second hiding spell he made, changes colour of body and items, it can't be compared to real camouflage, but it's better than nothing. The name is telling a lot about it - Changing Colour.

Creating those spells took him a few weeks, during which he started to wonder whether he should stay at the village or travel, looking for resources to develop or beings to change into his undead. Dezen really like developing and creating spells at peace, but it could be faster. And such travel may speed up this rate. Also, he believes he needs other testing subjects to deepen his knowledge about necromancy. For instance, if he catch some magical being and use spell Revival, necromancy should affect them, changing their magical properties. Having such testing subjects, would let him learn a lot about this magic and may give him inspiration to create new spells.

As for now, he likes the second option, but he won't choose it yet. This is because he needs more spells. Especially if he wants to get new undead. Besides this, he needs other preparations to survive in the wild.

The next spell he created is used for healing. It creates green fire on wounds, which he heals and kills microorganisms, but Dezen doesn't know about it. It simply works almost like Faster Regeneration, what means he didn't need to create it. Dezen however is afraid that one day, he won't be able to use Faster Regeneration for some reason, so he created that spell to have another option in that case. Dezen named it Healing Fire.

From what he knows, spells based on fire can be combined, because of it, he started testing with this spell. First, he cut himself and used a combination of Revival and Healing Fire. His injury quickly closed, but nothing extraordinary happened. He didn't try combining it with Green Fire Ball, cause he couldn't imagine the use of it. Fire Fog and Healing Fire together is something Dezen likes. Not only it looks cool for him, but also lets him heal safely during battles. Breathing isn't a problem, since Fire Fog doesn't use oxygen nor harm its user. Nor do other fire-based spells

When Dezen ended tests, he felt ashamed that he hasn't thought about combining spells before. Luckily, it didn't affect him, so he just started doing it with other spells. Use of combination of Green Fire Ball and Revival can be easily imagined, it also gave him inspiration for creating new offensive spell. Combination of Fire Fog and Green Fire Ball has 2 variants. In first, when Green Fire Ball reaches its target, it explodes and creates Fire Fog. In the second, he creates Fire Fog first, from it, he can form many Green Fireballs, that are easy to aim and faster than when he throws them by himself.
