After an hour, I finally arrived at Base. The base was eerily quiet, the usual hum of activity reduced to a low murmur, a sign that something serious was brewing.

Mackenzie was waiting for me at the door, his face set in a grim expression that told me all I needed to know. He didn't waste any time on pleasantries. "Let's go. Everyone's waiting," he said, his voice curt and to the point.

I nodded in acknowledgment, the weight of what was to come settling heavily on my shoulders as we walked in silence toward the conference room.

As we approached the door to the conference room, I could feel the tension in the air, thick and almost suffocating.

When I entered, the sight that greeted me was one I had not expected.

Almost all the higher-ups were present, their faces were serious and grim. It was rare to see them all gathered like this, which only heightened my sense of foreboding.
