my light in the darkness

Karim's POV:

She spoke softly beside me, her voice almost lost in the vastness of the night. "The sky is beautiful, isn't it?"

I glanced up at the sky, following the path of her gaze before letting my eyes shift back to her. For a moment, I didn't say anything.

How could I?

The sky was beautiful, yes, but it paled in comparison to the way she looked in that moment.

The way the starlight caught in her hair, the way her eyes reflected the night... there was something so serene, so achingly perfect about it all that it made my chest tighten with a feeling I couldn't quite put into words.

"It is," I finally replied, my voice low and thoughtful. But even as I said it, I knew I wasn't talking about the sky.

Half an hour later, we reached home, the familiar sight of the door bringing a strange mix of relief and tension. The walk had been quiet, but not peaceful.
