Chapter 27

Yuna watched her uncle with a nostalgic gaze, remembering the countless times they had played together when she was younger, just the two of them. But now, as she observed Uncle William showering August with the same love and attention, Yuna felt a pang of melancholy wash over her. The realization that she was no longer the sole recipient of her uncle's affections brought a tinge of sadness, a reminder that time and circumstances had changed their dynamics.

"August, August, I'm going to find you!" William exclaimed, his voice dripping with playfulness as he embarked on a mission to track down the elusive toddler.

His search led him on a wild goose chase through the house, finally landing him in the kitchen where Kaida was standing, her gaze fixed on some distant point.

"Is August anywhere around here?" William asked, but his question was met with silence, as if he was speaking to a statue. He tried again, this time more loudly, "Hello!" but Kaida remained lost in thought, her eyes glazed over.

William's concern grew as he noticed the knife in her hand, moving in a slow, mechanical motion, cutting something on the counter. The knife glinted in the light, its sharp edge inching dangerously close to her fingers with each cut. Suddenly, the knife slipped, and Kaida's index finger was sliced open. "Ouch!" she yelped, snapping out of her trance.

William rushed to her side, his eyes assessing the damage. The cut was shallow but bloody, and he knew they needed to act fast.

"Where's the first aid kit?" he asked Kaida, but she shook her head, still dazed. William called out to Yuna, who was engrossed in her work in the living room. "Hey! Yuna, where's the first aid kit?" Yuna's response was immediate, "Where it's always been!" William smiled, knowing exactly where to find it. He led Kaida to Yuna's room, rummaging through her desk drawers until he found the familiar white box. "Found it!" he announced, turning to Kaida, who still lingered in the doorway, unwilling to enter.

"Come in, I'll apply it for you," William offered.

"No need, I can do it myself," she murmured.

William's expression turned puzzled, but then a knowing smile spread across his face.

"Let me guess, the 'my room is off limits' rule?" he asked, his eyes twinkling with amusement. Kaida nodded, a 'how did you know look' sneaked into her expression.

William chuckled, handing her the first aid kit. "She really hasn't changed" he mused, leaning against the wall, his eyes lost in memories of the past. "She's like that with everyone, you know," he added, his voice filled with a warm nostalgia, recalling the times he had first met Yuna.
