Chapter 59 - Zayne

Zayne had been in his office for only a few minutes, nursing the exhaustion that clings to him after an arduous night. The surgeries had been grueling—hours of intricate work, steady hands, and unwavering focus. His massive frame slouches slightly in the chair as he rubs the back of his neck, trying to ease the knots forming in his muscles. He never allowed himself much rest, but tonight had pushed him to the edge.

The dim light in the room cast long shadows on the walls, creating an atmosphere of calm, one Zayne is seldom afforded. The quiet hum of the building is the only sound, and for a brief moment, he allows himself to believe that he can finally rest, even if only for an hour or two.

But that illusion is shattered in an instant.
