Chapter 20 Along with the Dullness

Although Su Yanyi really wanted to retort loudly, "You're the one who's sick, your whole family is sick!" as a cool and imposing queen, such behavior was clearly inappropriate. So, she just calmly glanced at Qin Jiran, then gave him a stiff back, returning to her bedroom with a cold air!

Even though Su Yanyi and Qin Jiran had been married for three years, it was apparent that they were merely cohabiting under one roof. Both had their own bedrooms and studies, with the spaces clearly divided. When Su Yanyi closed her door, it was as if she had also shut the door on a world where communication with Qin Jiran was possible. Or perhaps, even if they were in the same world, they were incapable of communication!

She had merely wanted to have dinner with Qin Jiran, like a family, to spend more time together, to increase opportunities to understand each other. But why did he conclude that she was sick? Why indeed!

Qin Jiran was also somewhat troubled. Su Yanyi's various odd behaviors were simply too hard to ignore. Now she was talking about being sick and turned to leave, which was even more worrying. She couldn't truly be ill, could she?

After hesitating again and again, and even spending some time in the study looking over a script, considering issues with the new production crew, he still couldn't shake the feeling of unease. His gaze kept drifting toward the direction of the door, wondering whether he should go and inquire about Su Yanyi's condition. If she really was sick, she needed to seek treatment early!

Unable to sit still any longer, Qin Jiran left his study and sat in the small living room outside Su Yanyi's bedroom, holding the script. Though it seemed like he was reading it, he was actually staring at the bedroom door.

He rarely ever knocked on Su Yanyi's door. Knowing that it was something that would annoy her, he naturally wouldn't do it. Since he had moved in three years ago, the villa seemed to have been divided into two areas: places he could go, and places he could not touch. It was like Su Yanyi's heart—an insurmountable distance always lay between them.

Although he always tried his best to treat this place as his home, and worked hard to become a family member to Su Yanyi, even if it wasn't about love, it could be about kinship or friendship. However, he might have been inherently bad at socializing, especially in front of Su Yanyi, where he became even more wooden and clumsy. Neither IQ nor acting skills seemed to make a difference, causing the distance between them to grow farther and farther. Here, he seemed more like a guest, or even an unwelcome one.

Su Yanyi didn't like him, and her aversion seemed to increase over time. He also fled into his work, both for the sake of advancing his career and to keep himself too busy to remember the cold treatment he received here.

Apart from IQ and acting skills, when facing Su Yanyi, he also never had enough courage. Like a coward, he only dared to watch her from the shadows, not daring to take any initiative. Even something as simple as knocking on the door was something he dared not do.

Involuntarily, Qin Jiran revealed a self-mocking expression, scorning his own lack of courage, too timid and faint-hearted to even fight for love!

Yanyi might not even know that he liked her, right? He had never said it, and he didn't even dare to express any hint of affection. How would Yanyi know?

It was very late when Qin Jiran finally went to rest, and Su Yanyi's bedroom door had never opened.

Perhaps because he had gone to bed so late, Qin Jiran's wake-up time the next morning was obviously delayed, and he didn't even wake up naturally!

Qin Jiran didn't have the habit of locking his bedroom door while sleeping. There was simply nothing he needed to guard against while living here. So, when he was awakened by Su Yanyi poking his forehead with her finger early in the morning, he thought he was dreaming.

"Get up, make breakfast." Su Yanyi had woken up somewhat early and had been waiting for a while, yet realizing that Qin Jiran had no intention of getting up, she couldn't help but come in to wake him directly.

There are many ways to wake someone up, and Su Yanyi couldn't bring herself to shout loudly, so after some thought, she moved her fingers and poked Qin Jiran's head, but this action seemed a bit too gentle. The deeply sleeping man didn't react at all, prompting Su Yanyi to increase the force of her pokes while she studied his sleeping posture.

She hadn't paid much attention before, but now, looking closely, Su Yanyi had to admit that this man was indeed very handsome, with a certain high-end elegance. His eyebrows were handsome, his nose bridge straight, and his features were well-defined and profound. It was only when he was sleeping that he appeared a bit softer; at other times, he seemed cold and distant.

However, this man probably only looked cold and distinguished on the outside. In reality, he seemed a bit simple-minded; otherwise, why would he think she was sick? She was simply dumbfounded!

Yanyi had given it serious thought last night, and she couldn't figure out anything wrong with herself; naturally, the conclusion was that Qin Jiran had a problem, a simple mind that always thought strange things. She realized she would have to be more explicit and straightforward in the future if she wanted to be nice to him so that he would actually understand her kindness!

"Get up, I'm hungry." Seeing that the man finally opened his eyes, Su Yanyi said directly.

"Yanyi?" Qin Jiran was still a bit dazed, apparently not quite clear about the current situation.

He really was a bit slow, with such a sluggish reaction! Yanyi looked at Qin Jiran with some concern and couldn't help but recall a phrase she once read somewhere, stating that faithful and passionate men are actually simple-minded creatures who do not regret falling in love because their thoughts are simple.

And Su Yanyi's understanding was, simplicity in thought just meant being simple-minded, which explained why, even after three years of marriage, she hadn't realized that this man actually liked her!

It must be said, Su Yanyi never thought this issue was due to her own similarly slow reaction; she had always felt that what she didn't understand was love, but she never considered that her response to love was so sluggish.

Perhaps in her eyes, these were completely different concepts, or maybe she hadn't distinguished the difference between them at all. She just felt that this man was indeed simple-minded.

But a simple-minded man was good, too—loyal, sincere, straightforward, candid. There was no need to be guarded or cautious. Being just as straightforward and sincere, living with such a man would certainly be a very pleasant and comfortable thing.

"Hurry up and get out of bed, waiting for you to cook, I'm hungry." Yanyi said, and with a somewhat clumsy gesture, she patted Qin Jiran's head. This was her way of expressing closeness and comfort. Then she left Qin Jiran's bedroom, considerately giving him space to change his clothes.

Watching her leave, Qin Jiran sat on the bed with a strange expression on his face, suddenly very doubtful. Was the sun rising from the west today?

Or was it that the sun hadn't risen at all? Otherwise, why would Su Yanyi be acting so abnormally!
