I Wish He Did

The cab ride from the point where Damon left Jessica to the orphanage wasn't long, but Jessica's mind was still racing.

She couldn't shake the image of Damon's stony expression, the distance in his voice. She hated that she was still feeling guilty about it even after she had apologized. She was overthinking it and she knew it, yet she couldn't help it

When the cab pulled up to the orphanage, the sound of children's laughter filled the air, a welcome relief to the heavy silence she'd left behind at the house and in Damon's car.

The building itself was old but well-kept, with vibrant murals painted along the walls, depicting scenes of nature and play. It brought a small smile to Jessica's face as she stepped out of the cab.

Inside, Delilah was sitting on the floor with a group of children, a large book open in her lap. Her eyes lit up when she saw Jessica. "There you are!" she said with a grin, waving her over. "The kids have been asking for you."
