But now, all the monsters looked at the black dragon in front of them with awe.
After flying around and surveying my monster army, I flew to the top of a small mountain nearby—the highest point of the entire camp.
I placed Algerta beside me, and my scarlet dragon eyes stared at every creature present.
Algerta's figure was very small compared to mine, but the creatures below still noticed her. After all, a being who could stand beside the great Lord must be extraordinary.
And Algerta, looking at the vast number of various creatures below, then at the majestic black dragon beside her, felt her heart surge with excitement.
"I feel that the legend is too conservative. The figure of the Great Despair is so majestic. He will definitely bring despair to all creatures on this continent!" a priest-like lizardman said excitedly while looking at the black dragon in front of him.
He was the leader of another lizardman tribe. Originally, he didn't want to come here. He had wanted to join the Kingdom of the Fiery Dragon Mother on another plane. The Fiery Dragon Mother was an ancient dragon-level existence. If he joined the other party, he could ask the Fiery Dragon Mother to grant him the red dragon vein after making contributions. After all, although the black dragon was powerful, it was still far weaker than the red dragon.
He had come here with a try-it attitude because the lizardman leader, Red, had already obtained the black dragon vein.
Looking at the appearance of the black dragon in front of him, the lizardman priest had made up his mind to perform well.
"If I had known, I would have brought more warriors and captured more humans to break through this magic forest..."
The lizardman priest felt a little regretful. Due to some concerns, he had not brought all his warriors here. If he had, he would have gained a higher status. Compared to that, his hatred for humans was not worth mentioning.
"Lord Barbatos!"
The half-dragon Tursen flew over first. Since he had grown wings, he could now fly short distances. His strength had improved significantly compared to before.
The three clan leaders in the distance swiftly followed, but as their eyes fell upon me, they came to an abrupt halt. A year had passed since they had last seen me—back when they were first dispatched to this frontier after the Conquest of the Dark Forest. Then, they had arrived as conquerors, sent to claim new lands before the inevitable tide of displaced races surged southward, fleeing the Crimson Mother's relentless warpath in the heart of the continent.
Now, they stood at the precipice of yet another conquest—Larkana Mountains, a bastion of untamed power just beyond the dense sprawl of Schillminster Forest. Their forces had spent months waging war in these lands, crushing strongholds, subjugating the indigenous tribes, and carving a new dominion into the unforgiving stone. They had believed themselves at the height of their campaign, leading the charge to bend these mountains to our rule.
Yet, as they looked at me now, their conviction wavered.
The being they had once known—the ruler they had once pledged loyalty to—was no longer the same. The Black Dragon's presence loomed over the battlefield like an unshakable force, suffused with an authority that transcended mere leadership.
Every time Lord disappeared for a while, there would be new changes, but this time, the changes were even more profound.
"Lord!"
I looked at the dark creatures below and felt a little emotional. Who would have thought that such a powerful force had been established by me in such a short time?
The snowball effect had begun to spiral beyond control, its momentum carving an unstoppable path through the world. The stronger I became, the more subordinates I gathered—and they, in turn, grew ceaselessly, not just in power but in sheer numbers. Like an avalanche cascading down a mountain, what began as a mere shift in the landscape had become a force of nature, reshaping everything in its wake.
"Power begets power, and the weight of dominion is carried not by one, but by the many who rise beneath its banner."
Each victory fed the next, each conquest bred more warriors, and with every passing moment, the foundations of my rule grew deeper, more unshakable. What had started as a single ripple in the ocean of fate was now a tidal wave, swallowing all in its path.
"A king is only as strong as the storm he commands, and mine is a tempest without end."
But what the Black King didn't know was that this force had already earned a resounding name outside—"Black Dragon Monster!"
Roar~
Then, the dark creatures noticed a golden dragon, more than fifteen meters long, flying over their heads. Its golden scales shone in the sunlight.
"Golden Dragon!"
"How could there be a golden dragon here!?"
---
The dark creatures were a little agitated, but they soon calmed down because the Great Disaster of Despair seemed unfazed.
Gerald folded his wings as he flew in front of me and then slowly lowered his head, making a bowing gesture.
All the creatures immediately understood what the golden dragon meant.
"This golden dragon is surrendering to Lord Black King!"
The creatures who knew Gerald's identity were not surprised, but the other creatures were very excited.
After all, if even the most powerful golden dragon among the Metallic Dragons surrendered to the Lord, how powerful must he be?
"Gerald, get up!" I said.
The golden dragon below slowly raised its head, spread its wings, and flew to my left, standing next to me with Algerta on the right.
"My followers, I am your master. Welcome to join me!"
Roar~
The dark creatures below let out their own cries, like the howling of ghosts and wolves.
Those with weapons raised them high, and those without weapons bared their claws or teeth.
Each creature displayed its most powerful side.
I nodded with satisfaction. It seemed that my evil and hideous appearance had a strong appeal to the dark creatures!
If my two-headed form were revealed, it would excite these guys even more!
I then turned my gaze to the magic forest in the distance.
I could feel an extremely powerful magical presence within the forest.
Regarding the inheritance of the unicorns, there were also some records in my memory. Unicorns looked somewhat similar to horses, with a spiral ivory horn protruding from their foreheads. The magic within a unicorn's horn could heal diseases and injuries. A human king had once wanted a unicorn to use its magic to cure his ailments.
Although all unicorns possessed natural healing abilities, some individuals who served the gods wielded even greater power. They could even perform miracles that only high-level priests could achieve—some could even grant an extended lifespan.
Unicorns were natural lords of the forest. They could use their innate magic to form a celestial realm in their habitat. Within this realm, nothing could escape their vigilance.
Because of their natural ability to detect good and evil, no evil creature could exist within a unicorn's domain. This was one of the reasons unicorns were known as sacred guardians.
Under a unicorn's protection, creatures were free from the threat of civilization's invasion and the spread of evil. Unicorns constantly patrolled their territory, moving carefully to avoid disturbing other residents.
These guys were not easy to deal with...
But it was their fault for blocking my way.
I wonder how unicorn tastes? The flesh of celestial creatures should be quite delectable!
---
At this time, a sense of calm permeated the magic forest.
The wolves and foxes within the territory were as docile as birds, squirrels, and small insects.
A pure white, dazzling unicorn ran happily through the forest. There was no trampling where her hooves passed; instead, the grass and trees swayed gently from her presence, as if dancing.
The unicorn, seeming tired, stopped beneath a large tree to rest for a while. She could hear every tune of the birds singing in the treetops, feel every caterpillar cocooning, every leaf and branch, and the bright butterflies resting their tired wings.
"Westbey, I can feel the evil presence outside the forest increasing day by day. It makes me uneasy!" At that moment, a soft female voice emerged from the tree beside the unicorn.
Then, a graceful female figure stepped out of the tree. Her hair was made of red willow branches, and her skin was also green.
Only the key parts of her body were covered by green leaves and branches. These were the tree spirits of the forest. They could connect with the trees and use them to gather information.
They could even hide within the trees entirely.
"Melina, I can feel it too!" The unicorn's voice was also feminine.
"But it is my duty to protect the forest. I will not allow any evil to destroy the peace here!" Unicorn Westbey said firmly.
"Besides, they may not even be able to break through my sacred domain!"
The unicorn pretended to be relaxed.
But the eyes of the tree spirit, Melina, were full of worry. The creatures outside were gathering more and more, but there was no other movement except for the first few tentative attacks.
But their numbers were increasing. Melina had a hunch that the other party must be brewing a big move.
This was just the calm before the storm.
Melina suddenly closed her eyes. She spread her consciousness in some way, and then a tree outside the magic forest suddenly became more alive.
The tree spirit began to observe the dark creatures outside through this tree.
She had been exploring intelligence in this way for the past few days.
Soon, she found that today seemed different.
Melina looked up and was stunned. She saw a huge and ferocious black dragon flying from the sky in the distance.
Then it landed on the mountain next to it. The ferocious appearance and terrifying dragon power gave Melina an extremely strong sense of oppression.
The evil creatures below began to get excited. Melina found that more evil creatures continued to move towards this place from a distance.
It turned out that these guys were waiting for this terrifying black dragon!
After the black dragon roared, Melina lost the vision-sharing connection in front of her.
Melina, who came back to her senses in the magic forest, was a little panicked. She looked at Westbey in front of her and said hurriedly, "It's not good, Westbey! The leader of those evil creatures is a black dragon, a very terrifying legendary black dragon!"
"Legendary black dragon?" Westbey was a little surprised.
She knew the black dragons among the Chromatic Dragons. She was confident that ordinary black dragons could not do anything to her. With the blessing of the sacred domain, she was even confident that she could kill ordinary middle-aged black dragons.
So a normal black dragon would definitely retreat—unless this black dragon was an ancient dragon that could break the sacred domain. But an ancient dragon needed a long time to grow and had to be born with extraordinary talent.
I haven't heard of an ancient dragon around here!
Melina described to the unicorn, Westbey, what the black dragon looked like and the dragon's might that had almost suffocated her...
The unicorn looked at Melina solemnly.
"Melina, go find the little guys and tell them what's going to happen here!" the unicorn suddenly said seriously.
"But you..." The unicorn interrupted the tree spirit when she wanted to say something else.
"If this place is really broken, please take them away safely!" Unicorn Westbey sighed.
The tree spirit, Melina, didn't say anything else but directly merged into the ancient tree next to her and disappeared.
This was the talent of the tree spirit. She could merge into a tree and then emerge from another tree.
It was an extremely powerful teleportation ability in the forest, and its life-saving potential was immense.
---
At this time, a burst of laughter came from the top of a towering old tree. Several Pixies were chasing and playing with each other.
Pixies are less than one foot tall. They look like miniature elves with gauze-like butterfly or dragonfly wings. They shine like the dawn and are as dazzling as the rising full moon.
This kind of fairy loves to seek happiness everywhere. Their personalities are as curious as cats and as timid as deer. They are very curious about other creatures.
"Suna!"
Melina appeared from a big tree.
"Aunt Melina!" A Pixie in a petal dress with a small wreath on her head flew over happily.
She flew around Melina and looked very happy.
Melina looked at the Pixie in front of her and smiled happily, her troubled mood relieved a little.
Pixies were such creatures. Their smiles always infected the creatures around them.
"Suna, go and inform the other companions now. It's very dangerous outside the forest. There may be bad guys coming here later. Let them all gather here. If there is any danger, I will take you away from here," Melina said, adjusting her mood.
"Danger? But we have the holy guardian, Lady Westbey, here. She will protect everyone," Pixie Suna said doubtfully.
For as long as she could remember, the unicorn, Westbey, had been guarding this magic forest.
Whether it was ferocious monsters, their natural enemies, or even powerful humans trying to break into the magic forest to capture them—
All these dangers had been solved by Westbey. The magic forest was their home and a paradise.
"This time, it is very dangerous. Lady Westbey may not be able to solve it..."
Melina sighed. She had never seen Westbey so nervous, so this time, it was very serious.
"This time, there is a powerful legendary ancient black dragon eyeing this place..." Melina explained.
Pixie Suna was a little confused. She was born here, grew up here, and all her laughter and joy were here. If all this was destroyed...
Suna's small body began to tremble.
Tree spirit Melina saw the little gal's fear. She stretched out her hand and held her in her palm. "Suna, don't be too scared. The companions in the forest will protect you. Now go do what I just said!"
"Aunt Melina, I understand!"
Suna flew off after she finished speaking.
Melina watched the little one's hurried departure and then left as well. She had to notify the other residents.
---
"We will protect our homeland. We will not be afraid of any creature that wants to destroy it all!"
In the same tiny village, a group of goblins was checking their equipment and weapons. They were also miniature elves, and the Sprigganfolk and Pixies looked very similar.
But their personalities were completely different. Pixies were warm and compassionate but timid, hating wars and conflicts. When they encountered such situations, they usually chose to escape.
Sprigganfolk were different. They were humorous yet tenacious warriors who would protect their territory using various harsh methods.
Although they were small in size, they were highly skilled at crafting items such as magical toxins. Their small bows were equipped with these, allowing them to fight against very powerful creatures.
And like Pixies, Sprigganfolk were also very good at hiding their figures. They were born with invisibility!
Everything in the magic forest was proceeding in full swing...
---
I had already flown outside the enchantment of the magic forest.
In fact, I had passed over this forest more than once, but the Larkana Mountains were too big, and I had been flying high.
And the unicorn had hidden this place very well, so I hadn't found it.
"Lord Barbatos, there was little information about this magic forest before because almost no creatures that went in came out. But now, we know a little.
"Twenty years ago, a human came out alive from it. Later, before he died, this human wrote down everything he encountered in it in a travelogue, which recorded many things about this magic forest..." said the lizardman leader.
In fact, there were many such messy travelogues on the market, many of which were based on some people's knowledge mixed with their own imagination. It was good if they were even half true.
But the place recorded in this travelogue was completely consistent with this magic forest...
After listening, I roughly understood that this human had been a bard who entered the magic forest with a slave-hunting group more than twenty years ago.
As soon as the slave-hunting team entered, they were stunned by the scene in front of them. There were Sprigganfolk and Pixies, both extremely rare in the outside world.
Such creatures were worth a fortune on the market!
So they quickly took action. But Sprigganfolk were not easy to mess with. They had the talent of the Prophet of the Heart.
Some Sprigganfolk could judge the good and evil of creatures by the sound and rhythm of their heartbeats, similar to my lie detection through vibration perception.
And some talented Sprigganfolk could even listen to the truest emotions of their opponents, measuring their past behavioral tendencies.
They could tell whether their hearts were beating in love, declining in sadness, or shrouded in hatred or greed.
