The Reveal

The Drive Back

The SUV hummed softly as Adams drove through the quiet streets, the city's glow reflecting off the windshield. Naomi sat in the passenger seat, her head resting against the window, her fingers absentmindedly playing with the hem of her jacket. The lake's peacefulness still lingered in her mind, but so did something else—the way Adams had looked at her back there. It wasn't anything dramatic, but there had been something... different.

She stole a glance at him. He was focused on the road, one hand on the wheel, the other tapping lightly against the gear shift. His expression was unreadable, as always, but there was something about the way he exhaled—a little heavier than usual, like he was thinking about something serious.

The silence between them wasn't awkward. It was the kind of silence that felt natural, like neither of them needed to fill the space with words just to be comfortable.
