May 8th, in the wee hours of the morning, the city district hospital in Liping was busier than ever before.
First, several ambulances tore through the night, speeding towards the northwest.
Just minutes before, a call had come from Lianhua Pharmaceutical Factory for an emergency, someone had been stabbed in the stomach.
Upon learning the identity of the injured person, all medical staff at the hospital were awakened by the ringing of telephones, summoned to be on duty and ready at a moment's notice.
In less than half an hour, a loud propeller noise came from the direction of the hospital's six-story ward building, as a helicopter landed on the rooftop without any prior warning.
The hospital director received a call and, with the department heads, ran towards the roof.
