Zuo Xiangning followed the Masked Man into a narrow alley, where darkness enveloped both sides, not even a glimmer of light was present.
Zuo Xiangning's footsteps slowed down increasingly.
It was a dark and windy night, the perfect time for plotting and committing crimes.
"Can't walk any further?" the man looked back and said, "It's not far. We're almost there."
"Where are you taking me? You're not thinking of selling me off, are you?" Zuo Xiangning stood still, refusing to move forward, her large eyes filled with terror.
"If I wanted to sell you, I would have done so long ago," the man pulled her forward, "My house is up ahead."
Zuo Xiangning was pulled forward with an unsettled mind, until they finally stopped in front of a small courtyard door.
The man knocked lightly twice and, with a squeak, an old man holding a lantern opened the courtyard gate from inside.
"Master is back," the old man said, beaming as he welcomed them into the courtyard.
