Chapter 2: The Untold Story Between The Gamer and the Grand Princess
Lucas was still wearing the clothes from before he transmigrated. In the world of "Epoch," the setting blends steam, magic, machinery, alchemy, and extraordinary powers, with attire inspired by modern European styles in a two-dimensional game aesthetic.
Standing before him was Shelley, codenamed "Black Mamba." In the Seawall District of Storm City, she had a "100% case-solving rate," making her quite popular among players.
It's no exaggeration to say that the Seawall District became the most chaotic area in Storm City, partly because it was home to the city's lower-class residents, and partly due to Shelley's unique crime-solving techniques.
The Shelley before him looked no different from her in-game counterpart.
She wore a black, midriff-baring top, a brown leather jacket left unbuttoned due to her ample bust, and tight leather shorts. A black leg band wrapped around her left thigh, with a holster attached.
Further down, the blade extending from her boot heel glinted coldly, reflecting into Lucas's eyes.
Lucas asked Shelley, "What's today's date?"
"Era Calendar 2647, April 24."
The day the game "Epoch" begins. Looks like some strategies might come in handy.
"I am the newly appointed detective of your Seawall District Intelligence Bureau."
"Are you joking!" Shelley pushed her foot forward slightly. "Kid! If you're going to lie, at least make it believable. Even Zane wouldn't believe what you're saying."
Surprisingly, Zane interjected, "Boss! Our detective died last month, and the headquarters said they would send us a new one. He might really be our new detective, given how much he knows about us."
"Shut up, Zane." Shelley stopped her subordinate. "I know the headquarters will send us a new detective, but it definitely wouldn't be someone so... weak. I bet he wouldn't survive three days in the Seawall District."
Shelley turned to Lucas, "This is your last chance. Who exactly are you?"
"I am your new detective."
Shelley's eyes flashed with murderous intent, and the blade from her boot pressed closer.
"My patience is limited... You don't have any appointment letter on you."
Lucas stared at Shelley, "Of course I have an appointment letter, but you don't know where to look. Release me."
Lucas's response made Shelley doubt herself.
"Where is the appointment letter? I'll get it."
"Release me first... You're not afraid a weak man like me will escape, are you?"
Shelley thought for a moment, withdrew her leg, and signaled Zane.
Zane immediately untied Lucas's ropes and handcuffs.
Lucas flexed his wrists and said, "Give me my things."
After Shelley nodded, Zane left the room and returned with an evidence bag, handing it to Lucas.
Lucas opened the evidence bag. Inside were keys, a phone, and a few cards.
Lucas took out the phone.
Shelley warily asked, "What is that? It seems like a magical item. I tried to open it, but it requires some sort of password."
"This is an experimental alchemy tool developed by the Imperial Alchemy Research and Development Bureau. No one but me can open it, and you wouldn't understand even if I explained."
Lucas unlocked the phone with his fingerprint and searched through the video collection.
"Here it is, take a look for yourselves."
Shelley and Zane peered at the phone screen.
When a woman appeared on the screen, Shelley instantly jumped up from her chair.
She stood at attention with a perfect military posture.
"Greetings, Your Highness, the Grand Princess!"
Agatha, the Grand Princess of the Argent Empire, was a legendary woman known for her beauty, valor, and wisdom. She was ruthless, decisive, strong-willed, and possessed the aura of a sovereign.
Her exceptional abilities allowed Agatha to hold multiple positions, one of which was overseeing the Imperial Intelligence Bureau, making her Shelley's direct superior.
Therefore, when the Grand Princess appeared on the screen, Shelley dared not show any disrespect.
Standing respectfully, she awaited the Grand Princess's instructions.
Although Zane had never seen the Grand Princess before, seeing Shelley's reaction, he also stood at attention.
"Greetings, Your Highness, the Grand Princess!"
However, what shocked Shelley and Zane even more was...
On the screen, Grand Princess Agatha spoke with deep emotion, "Are you… leaving tomorrow? That place must be very dangerous… I, I am worried about you, but I believe in you. With your abilities, there is nothing in this world you cannot accomplish. I will miss you, I will think of you every day. Tonight… could you stay? I want to see you… because I don't know when we'll meet again..."
Lucas put the phone away and said to the two stunned individuals, "What happens next is not for you to see."
The game "Epoch" masterfully catered to the fantasy enthusiasts, inserting numerous high-quality interactive CG animations into the storyline, enticing players to delve deeper into the plot.
As the affinity levels increased, the content would edge closer to the boundaries of acceptable limits.
As a "Epoch" content creator, Lucas had stored a vast amount of CG and guides on his phone for video production purposes.
Not just spending the night with your Grand Princess; I have CGs of spending the night with your Empress as well.
Seeing Shelley and Zane's expressions, Lucas knew he had successfully fooled these two top agents from the Seawall District Intelligence Bureau.
Their mouths hung open, speechless. Judging by their expressions, their minds must be buzzing.
At this moment, Lucas received a prompt in his consciousness.
[Would you like to charge your phone?]
Lucas glanced at his phone's battery level… 57%.
It was time to charge.
But how should he do it?
Lucas hesitantly answered in his mind, "Charge."
The phone instantly disappeared from Lucas's hand, and the phone's interface appeared in his consciousness.
The icon displayed [Charging]
The phone's disappearance finally snapped Shelley out of her daze.
"That… that really was the Grand Princess."
Lucas crossed his legs nonchalantly.
"Shelley, you've met the Grand Princess. You should know if it's real."
Of course, Shelley knew.
She had indeed just seen Grand Princess Agatha, and the setting was within the Grand Princess's private quarters.
But the usually stern and disciplined Grand Princess would never… say such words, or show such an expression.
Her image was shattered!
The important question was, to whom was the Grand Princess speaking such affectionate words?
Shelley couldn't help but scrutinize the man before her. He… he had slept with the Grand Princess.
