Chapter 6: Opening the Storage Box

Chapter 6: Opening the Storage Box

Lucas tried his best to appear harmless.

The guard, however, remained on high alert.

It was unusual for an elf to be alone at the storage district at night. After all, this was the Seawall District, and attractive female elves were highly sought after.

"Captain Ron is already resting. If you need to see him, please come back during the day."

Lucas knew it was inappropriate to seek out Ron this late, but he had to meet with the Seawall District Intelligence Bureau inspector tomorrow, followed by introductions to his future subordinates.

He wouldn't have time to come back.

"Sir, I have something extremely important stored with Ron. I must retrieve it tonight. Please take me to him!"

The guard was unsure how to handle this.

People working in the harbor area often had some connections with smuggling. At the moment, Ron wasn't sleeping but was in the warehouse making a delivery to a customer.

Could this elf be here to pick something up too?

But why hadn't Ron mentioned it?

Unable to make a decision, the guard decided to inform Ron and let him decide whether to see the elf.

"Wait here. I'll go ask Captain Ron."

The guard retreated into the gatehouse, woke up his colleague, and then ran towards the depths of the warehouse.

Lucas waited patiently outside the warehouse gate.

At level 60, he had time to waste here.

After about fifteen minutes, Ron emerged with over ten warehouse guards.

Ron was rotund, with a large belly and short legs, moving like a wobbling mound of flesh.

His right eye had been modified into a retractable, adjustable-focus lens.

A boomerang was sheathed at his belt, and his left hand was comically large, likely due to some extraordinary ability.

Among the guards, only three appeared to be normal humans; the rest had various modifications to their bodies.

Ron waddled up to Lucas, his right-eye lens whirring as it zoomed in and out, examining the exquisite female elf before him.

The guards encircled Lucas. Ron's face was full of lust as he looked at the elf.

"Little elf, I heard you were looking for me? And you said you have something stored with me..." Ron stepped closer to Lucas, his large belly advancing like a wall.

Realizing the malevolent intent, Lucas quietly activated his skills.

A cool breeze began to blow, and under the influence of the Star's Seat, the surrounding humidity increased.

Lucas backed away as Ron advanced, still hoping for a peaceful resolution. "Open my storage box."

No response...

Ron kept moving forward, thrilled by the elf's helplessness.

"What did you say? Little elf... can't you remember what you stored with me?"

Light rain began to fall from the sky.

Being coastal, night rains were common, so no one noticed the peculiarity of this rain. All attention was focused on the elf.

She was so beautiful, it seemed as if she did not belong to this world.

Facing Ron's aggressive approach, Lucas continued to back away cautiously and said, "I need the Spine of the White Dragon, Mistflower Crystal, Navirin Tears, Beyondwood, Moonflower Nectar..."

Ron chuckled and said, "Oh yes, I have those. They're all in my room. Come with me, and I'll get them for you."

At this moment, a person nimbly jumped down from a higher spot and reported to Ron, "Captain! There's no one around, just her."

Ron's smile grew even wider.

Lucas was now certain that the warehouse functionality was definitely not working.

"Captain Ron, it seems I was mistaken. You can all go back to rest. Sorry for the disturbance..."

Since his returning subordinate reported no ambushes, Ron dropped the act.

The fat on his face twisted into a sinister smile.

"Little elf, you must have lost your way and your mind. Do you really think I would have those items here? If I had those, do you think I'd still be watching over a warehouse? Be a good girl and come with me. I'll find you a wealthy noble to be your master."

...

Ron stopped in his tracks as he saw the elf draw two curved blades from behind his waist, adopting a combat stance.

Brandishing his weapons, Lucas, much smaller in stature compared to Ron, said, "Ron, this is a misunderstanding. I don't think you want to see bloodshed tonight."

Ron realized that the elf before him might not be as simple as he had initially thought.

But he was reluctant to let him go.

Such an exquisite elf would surely be adored by the nobles, fetching a sky-high price.

"This indeed is a misunderstanding. I was just joking with you." Ron began to back away slowly, signaling his subordinates with his oversized left hand hidden behind his back, while soothingly speaking to the elf, "I was just concerned for your safety, as Seawall District can be quite dangerous at night. I sincerely invite you to rest in our warehouse and leave when daylight comes."

"No need..."

Before Lucas could finish, Ron swung his massive hidden fist forward.

The giant punch dispersed raindrops, sending a fierce force towards Lucas.

Simultaneously, his other hand drew the boomerang from his belt and hurled it. The boomerang traced an arc as it flew towards Lucas.

The other warehouse guards, upon receiving the signal, rushed forward, trying to capture the exquisite elf in one fell swoop.

At this moment, countless misty frost flowers appeared out of thin air, blooming one by one in the air.

The temperature dropped sharply with the appearance of the frost flowers, turning the falling raindrops into ice crystals. The rain-soaked ground froze instantly.

The guards' clothes stiffened with frost, their shoes glued to the icy ground.

Their movements grew stiff due to the ice encasing their bodies, their breath condensing into clouds of white mist.

Seeing Ron's disgusting expression earlier, Lucas knew a fight was inevitable and had already activated Ice Dance Garden.

Coupled with the dampness and rain from Aquarius, Ice Dance Garden produced a domineering freezing effect.

Lucas sidestepped to evade Ron's punch, slicing the flying boomerang in half with one of his blades.

He then slid forward, quickly reaching a guard's side, and slashed open his throat. The hot blood sprayed out, instantly freezing into blood-colored icicles mid-air. \

The wound froze over quickly, and the guard remained in his stance, waiting for his life to end.

The temperature continued to plummet, and the lower-ranked guards, soaked through, couldn't withstand the intense cold.

Even those with slightly higher strength could barely tolerate the freezing, their movements slowed drastically.

{A/N: I am writing this, to rectify a confusion that might arise in future. The thing is, the game character Lucas plays is female. But the soul of that character is dormant, thats why lucas can temporarily share his consciousness to control the body.

And from authors pov, i will mention the character name as Lucas (male). Others will see the elf as female and will address her with female honorifics. I know the omniscient readers will understand it after reading the chapter, but i am just mentioning this in case someone is confused. Thanks for giving this novel a chance.}
