Kael sat nearby, sharpening his blade. His movements were slow, deliberate, and focused, though his attention drifted toward Liora every so often. The unease he had felt since the collapse lingered, a gnawing doubt that grew with every passing moment.

Elara returned from the storeroom, carrying a tray of steaming bowls. She handed them out silently, her expression betraying the same exhaustion that plagued them all. When she reached Liora, she hesitated.
