The four mates made their way to the grand hall where Orion had been waiting for them. The fae palace was eerily silent at this hour, the enchanted torches along the walls casting flickering shadows. Despite the warmth of the room, a cold tension wrapped around them like a vice.
Orion, as expected, lounged against a gilded pillar with an expression of sheer boredom, his arms crossed over his chest. His silver eyes flicked lazily over them as they approached, and a smirk played on his lips.
"Well, well," he drawled. "I was beginning to think you'd changed your minds about this ridiculous plan of yours."
Kai clenched his jaw so tightly Samantha thought she heard his teeth grind.
Marcus, standing beside her, exhaled slowly through his nose. "We don't have time for your nonsense, Orion."
"Oh, but you do have time to plan your grand suicide mission, don't you?" Orion chuckled. "How very ambitious of you."
