"I'm afraid you don't have a day."

All heads turned toward the chamber's entrance where a tall, willowy figure stood framed in moonlight. Her silver hair cascaded down her back like a waterfall, her features possessing the timeless beauty of a Fae. At her throat gleamed a pendant of crystal that caught and refracted the starlight streaming through the open ceiling.

Samantha stiffened in surprise. Despite their weeks of refuge in the Fae Palace, she had never seen this woman before. The Fae kept to themselves mostly, with only Orion and occasionally Callum's stepmother, Morgan interacting with them directly. Yet this newcomer carried herself with unmistakable authority.

"Queen Lyriael," Orion greeted, bowing his head respectfully.

Samantha exchanged startled glances with Kai and Marcus. The Queen herself? They had heard whispers of her, of course, but Morgan had mentioned that the Queen rarely granted audiences even to her own kind, let alone to outsiders.
