Chapter 55: The Truth Revealed

In the library of Silver Moon Apartments, Alex and Kai were buried in a pile of old documents and notebooks. Since the residents' safe return, they had been searching for clues about the building's true nature.

"I still can't believe Dr. Blackwood left behind so much material," Alex said, flipping through another page of dense notes.

Kai nodded, his eyes not leaving the document in his hand: "Yeah but finding useful information in it is like searching for a needle in a haystack."

Just then, Leo's voice suddenly sounded: "Don't lose heart, young ones. Dr. Blackwood was a cautious man, he must have left key information somewhere."

Alex sighed, stretching: "We've been searching for three whole days, Leo. Are you sure the answers we need are here?"

"I'm certain," Leo's voice held a hint of mystery, "In fact, I think you might have missed something."

Kai suddenly stood up and walked to an old bookcase in the corner of the room: "Wait, I remember seeing a strange book here yesterday... Ah, found it!"

He took out a seemingly ordinary black notebook from the top shelf. When he opened it, however, he found all the pages were blank.

"What's this?" Alex came over, curiously looking at the blank notebook.

Kai frowned: "I don't know, but I feel there's something off about this notebook."

Leo's voice sounded again: "Good observation, Kai. Dr. Blackwood indeed liked to use some special methods to protect his secrets."

Alex pondered: "Maybe... maybe we need to use our abilities to reveal its contents?"

Kai nodded: "Worth a try."

They placed their hands on the notebook, closed their eyes, and concentrated. Gradually, a warm energy flowed from their palms into the notebook. Suddenly, the notebook emitted a faint glow, and text and diagrams began to appear on the previously blank pages.

"My God," Alex exclaimed, "It worked!"

They eagerly began to read. The notebook's contents were far more shocking than they had imagined. Dr. Blackwood not only recorded the history of Silver Moon Apartments in detail but also explained its relationship with the multiverse.

"Look here," Kai pointed to a passage, "Dr. Blackwood wrote: 'Silver Moon Apartments is not an ordinary building, it is a living entity, one of the anchor points of the multiverse. Its existence maintains the balance of countless parallel worlds.'"

Alex continued reading: "'But this balance is being disrupted. A force from the void is trying to destroy all anchor points, with the aim of annihilating the multiverse.'"

"This explains why we've been facing various crises," Kai said thoughtfully.

Leo's voice sounded again: "That's right. Dr. Blackwood foresaw this long ago. That's why he chose you as the guardians of Silver Moon Apartments."

Alex frowned: "Wait, Leo. Are you saying Dr. Blackwood planned everything? Including us moving in, gaining abilities, even... becoming a couple?"

The room fell into a brief silence. Finally, Leo sighed: "Not entirely. Dr. Blackwood did choose you, but the feelings between you are real, not something anyone can pre-arrange."

Kai held Alex's hand: "Regardless, our feelings are real, that's what's most important."

Alex nodded, smiling: "You're right. Now, let's see what other information we can find."

They continued reading the notebook, discovering more astonishing facts. It turned out that Silver Moon Apartments was not only an anchor point of the multiverse but also a huge energy source. It could absorb and transform various cosmic energies, which was why it could connect different parallel worlds.

"Look here," Kai pointed to a complex diagram, "Dr. Blackwood designed a system that can use Silver Moon Apartments' energy to strengthen the multiverse's barriers. But this system needs specific 'keys' to activate."

Alex carefully examined the diagram: "These symbols... they look very similar to the ones we saw in that merged world."

Just then, the last page of the notebook suddenly lit up. A holographic image appeared; it was Dr. Blackwood.

"If you're seeing this message," Dr. Blackwood's voice was a bit distorted but still clear, "it means the crisis is imminent. Alex, Kai, I'm sorry to place such a great responsibility on you, but I believe you're the only ones who can save the multiverse."

The image of Dr. Blackwood took a deep breath and continued: "You must find the keys to activate the system. They are scattered across different parallel worlds, each representing a fundamental cosmic force. Only by gathering all the keys can you activate the protective barrier and stop the void's invasion."

"But be careful," his tone became more serious, "The void's forces will constantly try to stop you. They may appear in various forms and may even use people close to you. Always stay vigilant, trust your instincts, and most importantly, trust each other."

The image flickered a few times, then disappeared. The room fell silent again as Alex and Kai digested the information they had just received.

Finally, Alex broke the silence: "Well, looks like we have a new mission."

Kai nodded: "Yes, and it sounds more dangerous than any mission we've had before."

Leo's voice sounded again: "But it's also the most important mission. If we fail, not just Silver Moon Apartments, but the entire multiverse will face destruction."

Alex stood up, stretching: "So, where do we start?"

Kai flipped to a page in the notebook: "According to Dr. Blackwood's notes, the first key should be in a world called 'The Eternal Forest'."

"The Eternal Forest?" Alex raised an eyebrow, "Sounds like a place full of magic."

There was a sense of urgency in Leo's voice: "That's right, and time flows differently there than it does here. You must act quickly, every minute you delay, the void's power grows stronger."

Alex and Kai exchanged a glance, the flame of determination burning in both their eyes.

"We're ready," Alex said, "Leo, can you open the door to the Eternal Forest for us?"

"Of course," Leo replied, "But remember, once you enter that world, I may not be able to maintain contact with you. You'll have to rely on each other."

Kai squeezed Alex's hand: "That's enough."

Following Leo's guidance, a door flickering with green light slowly appeared on the library wall. Alex and Kai stood before the door, taking a deep breath.

"Ready?" Alex asked.

Kai nodded: "As long as I'm with you, I'm ready to face any challenge."

They smiled at each other, then hand in hand stepped through the mysterious door. As they left, the door slowly vanished, and the library returned to calm. But beneath this calm, a great storm that would sweep across the multiverse was brewing. Alex and Kai's new adventure had just begun.
