"Oh! How much longer do we have to go? I'm on the verge of dying."

After Ash's Bulbasaur was subdued, it evolved into Ivysaur later that night, and everyone was in high spirits. The next morning, after finishing their exercises and having breakfast, they set off once again.

After several days of walking, Misty couldn't help but complain, frustrated that she couldn't find their route on the map.

"If nothing's wrong, we should see Route 24 up ahead. If we follow it, we'll arrive at Vermilion City," Brock said, studying the map as they walked. Gradually, the landscape began to match what was on the map.

"So, we'll be in Vermilion City soon?" Misty asked excitedly.

"In terms of distance, it'll take a few more days, but the road ahead is much easier," Brock explained, still focused on the map.

"That's great!"

"Come on, we're on a journey. Can't you walk a little longer?" Ash turned around to tease Misty, who was trailing behind.

"I had a bicycle, though I wonder who destroyed it." Misty gave Ash a sideways glance, her voice dripping with sarcasm as she remembered her lost bike.

Pikachu scratched his head awkwardly, recalling the bike incident. Ash couldn't help but smile as well; after all, Pikachu had been the culprit. Bicycles just seemed to have bad luck around Pikachu.

"Alright! I'll pay you back. I got a nice bounty after catching those two troublemakers at Mt. Moon, so I've got enough to cover it. You can take the money now!"

Ash teased Misty again. Her expression changed quickly, and she hurried to respond.

"I... I don't want the money! That's not what I meant, and I'm not blaming you." Misty panicked, realizing she didn't want to part ways, and was just venting.

"I was just kidding!! Hahaha!" Ash laughed, amused by her reaction.

"Ugh, why do you always do this… seriously!"

As the group continued to bicker, Pikachu wandered ahead, not paying attention to his surroundings—

Boom!!!

Pikachu ran straight into something solid, rubbing his head in confusion. He squinted up, seeing a large shadow looming over him. Blinded by the sunlight, Pikachu's wide eyes stared in shock at the towering figure.

Startled, Pikachu scampered back on his hind legs, hiding behind Ash and grabbing onto his leg.

"Huh? Pikachu, what's wrong?" Ash, still laughing, looked down in concern.

"Pika pika !!!"

Pikachu frantically pointed ahead. The group followed his gaze, noticing the enormous shadow that was now visible. The sunlight obscured most of the details, but the figure seemed huge, and its head appeared to move. Misty jumped back in fear.

"What kind of monster is that?"

"Look closely, it's not a monster!" Ash said, exasperated. He couldn't help but think, "How bad are your eyes?"

Hearing this, Misty and Brock squinted at the shadow ahead. Upon closer inspection, they realized it was just a large rock. The sun behind it had cast a shadow that made it look far more menacing. However, something was sitting on top of the rock.

"It's… it's not…"

Perched on the rock was a small orange Pokémon. It had a round head, sharp claws, and a cream-colored belly. Its upper and lower jaws had sharp teeth, resembling a tiny, carnivorous dinosaur. A long tail extended behind it, with a small flame flickering at the tip.

"It's Charmander!" Brock exclaimed, immediately recognizing the Pokémon.

Charmander, one of the starter Pokémon from the Kanto region, was often chosen by new trainers. Like Bulbasaur and Squirtle, it was considered part of the "starter trio." However, it was also quite rare to see in the wild.

"Why is there a Charmander here?" Misty asked, breathing a sigh of relief now that the "monster" was identified. Though she favored Water-type Pokémon, she knew that starter Pokémon were rarely encountered outside of specific circumstances.

"It looks really weak," Brock observed, his brow furrowing in concern. As a Pokémon Breeder, he could easily gauge the condition of a Pokémon.

"Huh? How can you tell?" Misty asked curiously.

"Look at the flame on its tail," Brock explained. "Charmander's tail flame is an indicator of its health and strength. The brighter and stronger the flame, the healthier the Charmander."

Misty glanced at Charmander's tail and noticed that the flame was barely flickering. It looked so small that it seemed like a light breeze might blow it out.

"You're right! Why is it still out here, then?" Misty wondered aloud, now even more curious about Charmander's situation.

"Pikapi!" Pikachu, no longer afraid, climbed up onto the rock and began chatting with Charmander, as if trying to communicate.

"What are they doing?" Misty asked.

"They're probably talking," Ash replied, watching Pikachu and Charmander. He had a hunch about what was going on. His memory flashed back to the time from the anime. He realized they had reached this point in their journey faster than he expected. In the original story, it had taken a day to get here, but they had arrived sooner this time. Still, they'd encountered Charmander, which meant it had been waiting here for a long time. Ash felt a surge of anger, mixed with a sense of urgency.

"Piikaa~~ Pikachu!" Pikachu suddenly jumped down from the rock, waving its paws animatedly, trying to convey something.

"What is Pikachu saying?" Misty asked, confused by the gestures.

"This Charmander was abandoned," Ash said, his voice flat. He didn't need Pikachu's gestures to confirm it—he already knew.
