"Excuse me, what happened?" A voice suddenly sounded, and everyone turned their heads to see that it was Nurse Joy.

Noticing the commotion, she approached to inquire. As she did, she spotted Charmander lying on the ground with Ash picking it up.

"Ah!!"

"Charmander? The flame on its tail is so weak. How did you become a Trainer? You brought it here so late?" Nurse Joy rushed to Charmander's side, quickly realizing it was in a critical state.

Charmander had passed out due to exhaustion. It hadn't eaten for days and had traveled a long distance with Ash and his friends, leading to its collapse.

As a Trainer, ensuring Pokémon are fed and cared for is fundamental. Seeing Charmander unconscious, Nurse Joy assumed Ash had neglected it.

"Wait... wait a minute, Nurse Joy, it's not like that! This Charmander isn't Ash's Pokémon," Misty quickly stepped forward to explain.

"Ah!" Nurse Joy blinked in surprise. She had spoken out of concern and hadn't realized it wasn't Ash's Pokémon.

"I'm sorry, I was just too worried. What exactly happened?" She apologized after realizing her mistake and asked for more details.

"It's okay. This little guy was abandoned. Its Trainer must have tricked it, leaving it behind. It waited for them to return, but they never came back. It probably hasn't eaten for days."

Ash didn't mind Nurse Joy's reaction. After all, Pokémon Centers are responsible for the well-being of Pokémon, and seeing a Trainer neglect their Pokémon would naturally upset her.

"So that's how it is. It must be that Damian!" Nurse Joy said angrily after hearing the story.

"Damian? Is that this Charmander's Trainer?" Brock asked.

"Yes, he's a local Trainer who catches a lot of Pokémon."

"But his reputation here is awful. He captures many Pokémon, but when they lose a battle, he decides they're too weak and abandons them."

"It's a common trick he uses," Nurse Joy explained, clearly disgusted by the notorious Trainer's behavior.

Misty clenched her fists in anger. "That guy is terrible!"

Brock's face was equally grim.

"Oh... I'm frustrated too, but there's not much we can do. The Pokémon League doesn't have strict rules preventing Trainers from abandoning their Pokémon," Nurse Joy said with a sigh.

"Some of the Pokémon he's abandoned didn't have strong bonds with him and left quickly. Others stayed for a while before realizing he wouldn't come back. But this poor Charmander..." She looked down at the unconscious Pokémon with sorrow in her eyes.

"Nurse Joy, we can talk about this later! Can you take care of it first?" Ash urged.

"Ah! Yes, of course! Help me carry it over here!" Nurse Joy responded quickly, motioning for Ash to place Charmander on a stretcher. Ash carefully laid it down as Nurse Joy prepared to take it for treatment.

"Don't worry! I will definitely help it recover," Nurse Joy said to the three with a gentle smile.

In her eyes, Ash and his friends had done something admirable, especially compared to someone like Damian. If there were more Trainers like them, there would be far fewer injured Pokémon.

Sometimes, the pain Pokémon endure isn't from battles but from being mistreated by humans.

"This is the first time I've seen such a kind and beautiful lady," Brock said, blushing as he watched Nurse Joy walk away.

Ash and Misty sighed in unison. Brock was at it again. Not long after leaving Melanie, he had fallen for Nurse Joy.

"How can you say that? Don't all Nurse Joys look the same? I'm surprised you can even tell the difference!" Misty complained as she stood beside him, while Brock scratched his head awkwardly.

As it was getting late, the three checked into their accommodation and went to the restaurant for dinner. However, Ash didn't join them. Instead, he remained lost in thought.

"Ash, what's wrong with you?" Misty asked.

"It's nothing. You guys go ahead and eat. I'm going to check on Charmander," Ash replied, getting up and heading towards the medical room.

Misty and Brock exchanged a glance but didn't say anything. They knew Ash was just worried.

Outside the medical room, Ash arrived just as Nurse Joy came out. She paused for a moment when she saw him and smiled warmly.

"Ash, you're here!" She was used to Trainers dropping off wild Pokémon for treatment, but they rarely followed up on their condition.

"Yeah. How's Charmander doing?" Ash asked.

"It's going to be fine. After getting some nourishment, it should recover soon, but it needs to rest for now," Nurse Joy said as she glanced through the window beside them.

Inside, Charmander was sleeping peacefully, and the flame on its tail had grown stronger, indicating it was out of danger.

In fact, the flames on Charmander's tail are unique. While they are vulnerable to water, they don't go out even in the rain or if they fall into water. However, if their flame weakens, it consumes their life force. When the flame goes out completely, it signals the end of their life.

"I understand," Ash said quietly.

"You can go in and see it if you'd like. I have some other tasks to attend to," Nurse Joy said before leaving with Chansey. Ash stayed at the window, watching Charmander without going inside, not wanting to disturb it.

Soon after, Brock and Misty arrived. On their way, they ran into Nurse Joy, who informed them that Charmander was doing fine. They were relieved to know everything was okay.
