Soon, the Devileon lowered its head and called out to Ash and the others before quickly flying forward.
"Follow me!" Ash exclaimed, taking off after it. Officer Jenny and the rest of the group immediately followed. When they arrived at the scene, the problem became clear—it was not the work of an ordinary Trainer.
They ran through several streets and arrived at a tall, luxurious building, one of the city's most notable landmarks. The Devileon floated down and stopped before them, calling out while facing the building.
"Is this the place?" Ash asked.
The Devileon nodded firmly, confirming the suspicion. Officer Jenny frowned as she observed the building.
"Officer Jenny, what kind of place is this?" Misty inquired.
"This is a club frequented by wealthy individuals and businesspeople," Officer Jenny explained, her tone indicating that she had never investigated this place before. But what could this establishment have to do with the disappearance of children?
"Let's head in and find out," Ash declared, leading the way alongside the Devileon. Officer Jenny followed without hesitation, her resolve to uncover the truth unshaken.
Inside, a staff member approached them immediately. Officer Jenny explained their purpose, and the staff member, sensing the urgency, did not object. They entered an elevator and, guided by the Devileon, pressed the button for the top floor. Energy was emanating from there.
The elevator opened to a sprawling rooftop with a lavish setup: a central pathway bordered by grass, a golf course on one side, and a grand swimming pool on the other. At the far end stood a palace-like structure. The Devileon pointed toward it and let out another call.
"Over there?" Ash asked. The Devileon nodded solemnly.
"Let's go!" Officer Jenny said, taking charge and rushing ahead. The group followed, and Officer Jenny threw the doors open. Inside, a lively cocktail party was in full swing. Guests turned in surprise at the sudden intrusion.
"Hmm? Officer Jenny? What brings you here?" a distinguished-looking man asked as he approached. His tone carried genuine curiosity.
"We're investigating strange energy signals traced to this location," Officer Jenny stated without hesitation.
"Strange energy? Here? That seems unlikely," the man replied, his expression puzzled.
The Devileon floated higher, scanning the room. Its gaze locked onto two yellow figures at the center of the gathering. It called out to Ash and the others, drawing their attention to the figures.
"Those are..." Brock began, squinting as he recognized the forms. "Drowzee and Hypno! Psychic Pokémon with powerful hypnotic abilities!"
The group moved closer, taking in the sight of the yellow-and-brown Psychic Pokémon.
The upper body of one Pokémon was yellow, while its lower body was brown, with a wavy dividing line between the colors. Its hands were divided into three fingers, and its feet had two toes each. Its nose was slightly long and wrinkled. Its eyes had a deceptive quality that made it appear cunning. This Pokémon was Drowzee.
The other Pokémon was dark yellow all over, except for its neck, where white fur formed a scarf-like pattern. It had pointed ears on its head, and its nose was shorter. In its hand, it held a string tied to a hypnotic pendulum. This was Hypno, the evolved form of Drowzee. Both were Psychic-type Pokémon.
These Pokémon specialized in hypnosis, constantly emitting a magnetic field that could influence people nearby. Legends even spoke of Hypno using hypnosis to abduct children.
"Oh, those are our club's Pokémon!" the gentleman explained, gesturing toward Drowzee and Hypno. "We work long hours and often struggle with nightmares and sleeplessness. We use Drowzee and Hypno to help. Instead of taking sleeping pills, we rely on them to hypnotize us for peaceful rest. If we have nightmares, Drowzee can even swallow them, ensuring a deeper sleep. It's a better solution for our health."
Misty, however, looked confused. "But what does this have to do with the missing children?" she asked as she approached Hypno, peering down at it.
Hypno, apparently habituated to hypnotizing anyone who came close, swung its pendulum in a sudden motion.
"!!!" Ash shouted in alarm, realizing what was happening, but it was too late. The pendulum released a series of blue, circular ripples that entered Misty's eyes.
"Wow wow wow!!" Misty's eyes grew unfocused as she clapped her hands erratically and began shouting nonsensically, as if performing in a strange, dreamlike state.
"Misty, what's wrong?" Brock cried in shock, rushing to her side, but she didn't respond.
"What's going on?" Officer Jenny asked, baffled by the situation.
The gentleman was equally stunned. "This... this has never happened before. Normally, Hypno's hypnosis just helps us fall asleep peacefully. I've never seen a reaction like this."
"Could it be because Hypno's hypnosis adapts to the energy levels of its targets?" Ash speculated. "Children are naturally full of energy, so its hypnosis might work differently on them."
Brock frowned. "Are you saying the missing children might have been hypnotized and wandered off on their own? But could Hypno's hypnosis have such a wide-reaching effect?"
Ash nodded grimly. "Hypno's abilities are strong, and if tuned to human targets, it could cause a widespread effect. We need to investigate further."
"One Hypno potentially influencing the whole city... That's unbelievable," Brock muttered, still trying to comprehend the scale of the phenomenon.
