Emily, Aiden, and Sarah continued their intense search through the dusty old texts in Marcus's small back room. Hours seemed to pass in a blur as they pored over ancient records and cryptic notes, hoping to find some clue about Aiden's mysterious connection to the werewolves.
Marcus suddenly paused, his eyes widening as he pulled out a brittle piece of parchment. "I think I found something," he said, his voice tinged with excitement and caution.
Emily and Sarah quickly gathered around as Marcus read aloud:
"In the ancient records, it is written that a wizard was once taken captive by a powerful werewolf. This werewolf, known as the Godfather of all werewolves, commanded the wizard to create potions that would enhance his strength and control over other werewolves. The Godfather believed humans were devils and dedicated himself to ridding the world of their presence. The wizard, under duress, complied and created various elixirs, further empowering the Godfather's reign."
Marcus's voice grew graver as he continued, "The last entry mentions a location—this is the wizard's house before he was taken captive."
Emily's heart raced. "Does it say where this place is?"
Marcus nodded, but his expression was grim. "Yes, it does. But if we go there, it could be dangerous. This place is rumored to be where the Godfather werewolf operates from."
Aiden, who had been listening intently, looked more confused and anxious. "So, what does this mean for me? Why do I smell like a werewolf?"
Marcus sighed, closing the book gently. "We don't have all the answers yet. But this Godfather werewolf might be connected to your situation. We need more information."
Emily placed a comforting hand on Aiden's shoulder. "We'll figure this out, Aiden. You're not alone in this."
Marcus then asked Emily to step outside for a private conversation. Once they were alone, he turned to her with a serious expression. "Emily, why are you helping Aiden? What's driving you to stick by his side?"
Emily looked thoughtful, her gaze distant as she considered her answer. "I feel different around him, Marcus. There's something about him that draws me in. And…I believe that if I stay close to him, I might find out more about my father's death."
Marcus studied her face, his concern evident. "But what if he turns out to be a werewolf? What if he's connected to the very thing we're fighting against?"
Emily's eyes showed a flicker of doubt, but she quickly masked it with determination. "I don't believe he is, Marcus. There's something about him that feels…right. I have to trust my instincts."
Marcus nodded slowly, though his worry didn't dissipate. "Just be careful, Emily. This path we're on is dangerous, and we can't afford to make mistakes."
Emily gave him a reassuring smile. "I know, Marcus. We'll be careful."
They returned to the cottage, where Sarah and Aiden were still sifting through the texts. Aiden looked up as they entered, his face a mixture of confusion and determination. "What's next?" he asked.
Emily exchanged a glance with Marcus, then spoke with resolve. "We keep searching. We need to find out more about this Godfather werewolf and the wizard. If we're going to get answers, we need to be prepared for anything."
Aiden nodded, grateful for their support. "Thank you, all of you. I don't know what I'd do without you."
As they resumed their search, a sense of companionship and shared purpose filled the room. They were united in their quest for answers, and no matter what dangers lay ahead, they were ready to face them together.
