Washington DC
Grace sighed in relief when the plane landed. She felt goosebumps all over. Not in a bad way, her parents has never talked about a trip to come to Washington. She thought maybe they didn't like the state after all being the capital of the United States. She could only sigh.
"OK Grace. We can go now", Amber said. Grace could see how happy she is, it only made her wonder why she is not afraid of her after all she tried to kill her, "I promise my colleagues will treat you as family".
'Yeah, then I'm off to the orphanage like a trash', She wanted to say. She unhooked her belt and let Amber lead the way.
As they got down from the plane, Samuel was waiting for them already making a phone call, Grace breathe in the fresh air and a for a moment she felt happy and sad at the time. She wished in her heart that her parents was here with her, smiling at her and scolding her. She wished those moments can come back to her again.
"They are here", Samuel said looking at the SUV'S as it approached them, Amber held Grace hand and squeezed it, assuring her it going to be okay. Grace felt it... odd.
"We are home, Samuel", Amber said as she stood beside him, "I can't wait to have a cup of coffee and toast", She smiled.
Samuel only nod, his eyes locked on the SUV'S. He clenched and unclenched his fist feeling slightly uncomfortable due to the stares coming from Grace, this girl knows how to scare someone. The SUV'S stop in front of them and a man dressed in suit stepped out, Grace eyed the man head to toe.
"Amber, Samuel", His strict voice echoed in her ears immediately she felt like punching him.
'How can you address your colleagues like that'.
"Mr Brooks, this is Grace", Amber introduced her instantly.
Mr Brooks looked at Grace for a while, "You were with Peter Cole?", He asked being straight forward, somehow Grace felt impressed.
"Yes", She replied, "Is that the problem here?", She asked.
"I know you do have a sharp mouth I have being informed", He smiled like he had won a trophy.
Grace frown her eyes moved to Samuel, 'so he is the one that informed this Old rag about me, huh?. Interesting, have you informed your whole family?'.
"Er... Mr Brooks is this the right place to ask questions?", Amber instantly interrupted, "I mean.... we need to head back to the HQ to ask about this kind of situation. Grace is only nine years old".
Grace wanted to protest but then realising that Amber is trying to shield her from the questions thrown at her by the old rag. She quickly shut up. All she can do is stare the old rag while he enjoys his time smirking at her, she wanted to punch that dirty smirk off his face. What right does he have to smirk at her like that!!, she thought the CIA was kind and gentle not evil with smirking!!!. How will she survive while this man continue to stare and smirk at her like she is a newly brought prostitute in a night club wearing nothing. That thought made her feel irritated.
"Sure", The old rag finally responded shifting his eyes away from her, she felt relief, "We are going to the headquarters now", He suddenly sounded strict and firm making Grace to raise a brow.
'Now the old rag is acting strict?', She wondered.
As Mr Brooks walked back to the cars, Amber and Samuel followed dragging Grace along. She wanted to protest, why! why!! why!!!. Can't they see that this old rag is bad news!! at that moment she wanted to yell and run away. But what can she do, she allowed them to drag her to the car. Once they entered they drove out of the airport.
"Grace you are a remarkable kid, you know that?", Mr Brooks asked and she rolled her eyes, "I also heard about your parents".
Her heart sank will everyone keep on reminding her about her parents? when will they stop?. She didn't want to cause a misunderstanding like the last time so she chose to ignore. But he continued....
"Do you know....."
"I can pull the trigger to blow that head of yours to nothing but pieces of meat? and not only that, I can also break you in two before you utter the next word about my parents?".
"...."
"...."
"...."
"...."
Silence followed her word and no one spoke but stare at the kid in fear even the driver lost his cool. Amber felt her heart skip the beat while Mr Brooks face went pale. He stared at Grace while she glared, she had enough of his talks about her and her family at least there is something called honor the dead! for god sake. Why will everyone think her parents are monsters they haven't done anything!!!.
"Did I say something... wrong?", She asked and Mr Brooks instantly shook his head.
The trip was quiet and it was comforting to her nobody to smirk at her anymore.
She looked out the window, Washington is a beautiful place...well to her and not her parents. She sighed. Hours pasted and the car halted in front of a glass building. When they got out, Grace frowned. Wait..... why is she here at the first place?.
"Why am I here again?", She questioned curiosity danced in her eyes.
"The CIA want you to have a better future, they will monitor you and make sure you get adopted to the best family who will look after you as their own", Amber explained smiling at her, "But.. you still need to tell us if Peter Cole maybe or accidently told you something before his death".
"I will tell you", Grace pause and they all stared at her waiting patiently, "Run".
Amber smile fell. She was expecting something else.
"Why run?", Samuel asked he was getting impatient, "Who were you running away from?".
"I think you are not qualified to ask me that", Grace said.
Samuel clenched his fist, 'Just wait until Aries get rid of you'.
Mr Brooks sighed leading the way inside the glass building. They followed him heading to the elevator.
"We have prepared your foster parents, Grace", He said.
'Already?'.
"All we need is your statement about the death of Peter Cole and your parents. Then we will send you to them".
Grace didn't care, she expected it but it's not fair to her, they can't just throw her like trash, she just lost her entire family and the worst of all the Slayers are after her and maybe they are already here.... waiting. Her heart accelerated in fear.
"I promise they will take good care of you", Amber squeezed her hand to comfort her.
Grace didn't respond.
'Yeah right. Just wait for your death 357 I'm sure Aries is planning your death. And wait it' s through me', Samuel smirked inwardly imagining the the sight.
"It sounds like you are throwing me away", Grace spoke looking down, "You are throwing me away to die, right?".
"No we want you to have a better future away from danger, knowing who your parents are", Mr Brooks said as the elevator door opened he stepped out. They followed behind.
"It still sounds like you are throwing me away", She continued, "I give you the most valuable device in the history of mankind and here you are pushing me out".
Mr Brooks halted and turned, "We are not throwing you away Grace. We want you to have a better future ahead of you away from the chaos and the dangers...."
"What if I want to be apart of that chaos?", She asked cutting him off.
