A day later, Furukawa summoned the three-headed demon dog, the dark cat, the three-eyed demon monkey, and the Vajra demon pig—four Chaos Demon Gods who had originally guarded Chaos City in 903—to the Underworld.
"Master City Lord," they greeted him.
The four Chaos Demon Gods looked around curiously, sensing the pervasive atmosphere of the Law of Death in this world of the dead. The Underworld was boundless, with an endless influx of souls from all realms, filling the place with a ghostly aura and the immeasurable power of Death.
Even as Chaos Demon Gods, they were in awe of this realm of Death. The Underworld seemed to hold incredible power, with infinite mysteries and avenues.
"I've called you here today because I want the four of you to guard the Underworld," Furukawa declared, standing with his hands behind his back.
"What?!" The four Chaos Demon Gods were surprised. They hadn't expected the city lord to ask them to abandon their post in Chaos City to guard the Underworld instead.
"This place is of great importance," Furukawa continued. "It is the land of the dead across the heavens and all worlds. In the future, it will become an extremely significant place. You must protect it and, in doing so, you will also gain immense benefits."
"Yes, Lord City Lord," the four Chaos Demon Gods responded, their eyes gleaming with understanding. They could sense that this was a significant opportunity for them, something guided by fate.
"I don't know what you need us to do, Lord City Master?" the three-headed demon dog asked, eager for guidance.
"Your task is straightforward," Furukawa explained. "Three-headed demon dog, you will guard the gate of the Underworld, the only passage connecting the world of the living and the Underworld. No living being must be allowed to enter the Underworld. That is the rule."
"Yes, Lord City Master. I will guard the portal and ensure no living soul enters," the three-headed demon dog vowed. It understood the gravity of its duty and the trust Furukawa had placed in it.
"Dark cat," Furukawa continued, "you are skilled in stealth and can create countless copies of yourself. Your task is to patrol the mortal world and capture any evil spirits that linger there. The dead must not remain in the living world. You will also gather intelligence to prevent any enemies from invading the Underworld."
Although the world's numerous dragon veins typically devour evil spirits and send them to the Snake Road of the Underworld, some spirits, filled with resentment, power, or wisdom, manage to resist. These spirits cause great harm to the living world and must be captured. As such, the dark cat would act as the Underworld's enforcer, responsible for arresting these rogue spirits.
"Meow, Lord City Master, I will bring back all these evil spirits," the dark cat replied, eager to fulfill its duties. It was excited at the prospect of leaving Chaos City to explore the heavens and worlds, capturing escaped evil spirits—an interesting and fulfilling mission.
"Vajra Demon Pig," Furukawa addressed next, "you are strong and indestructible. Your responsibility is to maintain order in the Underworld, ensuring that no evil spirits cause trouble. You will serve as the jailer of the Underworld."
Although the Underworld itself is sufficient to imprison the spirits, it still requires someone to manage them. Vajra Demon Pig, with its immense strength and defensive capabilities, was the ideal candidate.
"Don't worry, Lord City Master. If any evil spirits cause trouble, I'll smash them down with my nine-toothed rake," Vajra Demon Pig declared, brandishing its weapon with determination.
"Finally, Three-Eyed Demon Monkey," Furukawa concluded, "your role is the most crucial. You must assist Vajra Demon Pig in maintaining order in the Underworld and Snake Road. Additionally, if there are evil spirits in the mortal world that prove too difficult to handle, you will be called upon to help. You will serve as the Commander-in-Chief of the Underworld."
"Yes, Lord City Master," the Three-Eyed Demon Monkey replied, thrilled by the responsibility. It recognized the importance of its position, which essentially involved maintaining security throughout the Underworld. This role suited its character perfectly, as it craved challenges and strong opponents, which the Underworld would surely provide.
"Very well, then. The Underworld is now in your hands. Do not disappoint me," Furukawa said. With that, he vanished from the Underworld, leaving the three-headed demon dog, the dark cat, the three-eyed demon monkey, and the Vajra demon pig to their duties.
