Chapter 23

The next day, Penne and Nick traveled to visit their friend Liz. Early in the morning, Henry made a video call to Liz. On the first attempt, she didn't answer, but on the second attempt, she picked up and asked if everything was okay and why he was calling so early, mentioning she was late for work. He assured her everything was fine and asked how she was. Liz responded that she was great.

Henry looked at her, contemplating asking about her health, but remembering his promise to Penne, he held back. He then explained that he called because he woke up thinking about her, wanted to see if she was okay, and mentioned he missed her. He asked if he could visit her, to which she replied it was better not to, but added that if he ever came for work, they could have lunch together. She noted she was very busy and didn't have much time for anyone.

"Liz, can I ask you something?" Henry said, then quickly added, "I saw your picture in the magazine with some men around you. Are you seeing someone? One of those men in the photo?"

Liz responded, "Henry, I don't ask if the women in the magazines with you are your girlfriends. I think you're moving on. Don't you think I should do the same? Or do you expect me to spend my life alone? You made me come here, away from everything and everyone. It's not fair for you to question me now."

"Liz, don't say that. You know I've never cheated on you. You're the only one for me. I can't imagine anyone else touching you. I still smell your perfume on my pillow. I wish you were here with me." Liz interrupted, saying she was late and needed to work. He understood and said goodbye, and Liz ended the call. She felt a bit nauseous and ran to the bathroom.

Half an hour later, Liz got into her car and went to work. She received a message from her friend saying they'd arrive for lunch and asked her to make a reservation for the three of them. Liz was thrilled to have her friend there to talk with. She mentioned she would meet them at the restaurant and gave them the address, knowing that if they came to her place first, Penne would undoubtedly want to know how things were at work.

Anxiously awaiting lunchtime, Liz paced around, talking to a staff member before returning to her office. As soon as it was time for lunch, she asked her secretary to cancel all appointments for the day and said she would return to the office the next day. She then headed to meet her dear friends.

Liz arrived at the restaurant first, ordered a juice, and waited. Shortly after, she saw Penne and Nick walk through the door. The friends hugged, and Liz then greeted Nick, apologizing for the delay. They had lunch and talked extensively. Afterward, they went to Liz's place, where she had already prepared a room for them.

Liz asked if they wanted to rest for a bit before continuing their conversation. Nick said he would just take a shower before meeting some associates, while Penne mentioned they had things to discuss and wanted a hot shower too.

Nick got ready, said goodbye to his girlfriend and Liz, and left.

Penne asked if Liz had scheduled the appointment, and Liz replied that she had, saying it was set for the next morning, sounding worried.

Then, Penne reached into her bag and pulled out a quick pharmacy test. She said, "Let's find out right now; depending on the result, tomorrow's appointment will just confirm it. I'm here waiting, also anxious."

Liz responded, "Wish me luck." Penne said, "Good luck." Liz went in to take the test, and now it was just a matter of waiting. As she came out of the bathroom, Liz looked at her friend with tears in her eyes, without saying a word. Penne then asked, "Tell me, Liz, what's the result?"
