Chapter 41

Liz was sitting at the table with Henry. They ordered two juices and two healthy sandwiches. He said he was going to help her stick to the diet and that from that moment on, they would eat everything healthy. "In three months, when you repeat your exams, nothing will come back negative." Liz held his hand and smiled.

As they were leaving the café, Maik Lennon was arriving. He greeted Liz with a kiss on her cheek and said, "I'm very sorry for your loss. I hope my flowers were delivered. And you? Are you okay?"

Liz replied, "Yes, I'm much better. And thank you for your support. It meant a lot to me and my mother to receive so much care."

She then introduced them, "This is Henry, my fiancé. And this is Maik, a friend I made while I've been here."

The two men greeted each other, and Maik asked Liz, "When did you get engaged?"

Liz replied, "A few days ago."

Henry added, "And the wedding is in thirty days."

"So, you're really in a hurry to get married?" Maik commented.

"We've lost a lot of time already. Now we want to make up for it," Henry responded.

Noticing that the conversation might go on for a while, Liz interrupted, "Maik, it was really good to see you. But we need to go now."

"It was great seeing you too, Liz. And it was a pleasure meeting you, Henry. You're a very lucky man," Maik said.

Henry agreed, "Yes, I'm very lucky."

"And I hope to be invited to the wedding," Maik added.

Liz replied, "Don't worry, you'll get an invitation."

"See you then. Take care," Maik said.

Henry just nodded, and they left. As they walked away, Maik continued to watch them, thinking, "How did I let her slip away like that? The only woman who truly affected me. And I didn't even have time to try to win her over." Then he turned around and left, no longer in the mood for his coffee.

On the way, Henry asked Liz if she had ever had anything with Maik. She replied, "No. I wasn't interested in any man; I focused only on work. And, even though I could have if I wanted to, I didn't care. I was single... And stop being jealous. It's not like that."

"I saw the way he looked at you, and it wasn't how a friend looks at a friend. I know that look; it's the same one you never noticed on me."

"Henry, forget about it. We're engaged, and we're getting married soon. Let's change the subject. You heard our baby's heartbeat. He's happy because his mom is very happy."

"His dad is very happy too," Henry said and then asked if she wanted to rest first or go to the office.

"Let's stop by the office, and I'll check on things. It's been days since I last opened my computer."

Arriving at the office, Liz went in with Henry. He left her there, saying he would go out for a bit while she took care of her things. When she was done, she could call him, and he would come to pick her up. He gave her a kiss and asked her not to overdo it, saying, "I love you!"

Liz replied, "I love you too. We'll be home soon."

Henry left the room, and then Liz asked her secretary to bring in the files she needed to review and sign.
