Chapter 16 :The Task of the Patriarch

The patriarch hesitated for a moment before finally confiding in us. Although I helped the tribe solve some of the monster disasters last time and cured some of the horse plague, the trouble didn't end there; instead, there were more monster infestations and a widespread plague.

Legend has it that there are two mysterious places to the west of the tribe, where the "Great God of the Bull's Head" and the "Great God of the Plague" live. Ten years ago, the tribe, unwilling to be oppressed any longer, started a long battle with these two evil gods. Although they finally succeeded in sealing them and putting them to sleep, they also paid a heavy price. The tribe's population of tens of thousands was almost exterminated at the time, and has only recovered to a hundred or so people to this day. Now it seems that the sealed Demon God is about to awaken, and the patriarch has already planned to lead the herdsmen to leave this grassland on which their ancestors have lived for generations.

The four of us were probably all drunk at the time, and facing the patriarch's complaint, we almost in unison patted our chests and promised, "I will definitely help you get rid of those two demon gods!" As soon as the words fell, the system beeped in our ears, "You have accepted the 'Seal the Demon Gods' quest."

In this game, we don't lose our self-awareness; even if the game character falls asleep, the system will play a piece of music or a movie for us to pass the time, and is able to interrupt sleep at any time. However, the drunken state is different from sleep in that the system automatically simulates the anesthetic effect of alcohol on the nerves, but for health and safety reasons this anesthesia is relatively mild and we retain enough consciousness and can actively cut off the feeling of drunkenness.

Even though the feeling of alcohol anesthesia was intoxicating, I quickly cut off the sensation and called up the quest bar to check it out, and sure enough, I had actually accepted a quest called "Seal the Demon God".

I woke up Leon and the others, and the result of our discussion was unanimous: "Do it!" The worst thing I can do is to die once. The Demon God is very strong by its name, but the stronger the enemy is, the more rewarding it is. Even if we can't complete the mission, there must be a lot of good stuff in the Demon God's habitat, and it's worth it to catch a Divine Artifact!

Last night, our determination and bravado impressed the patriarch, he did not forget our promise after waking up from the wine, and immediately selected seven of the tribe's best warriors to travel with us, and he himself personally went into battle. I quietly observed that the patriarch was a level 40 Grassland Mage, the two main warriors in the tribe were level 37 Archers and level 36 Grassland Warriors, and the rest of the four were all archers of about level 30 or so. Except for the tribe's generations-old set on the patriarch, which was more outstanding, the rest of them wore a colorful bronze level equipment. Luckily, I had brought seven Iron level weapons as a gift, or else this group would indeed look a bit shabby.

Seeing their ranks, we couldn't help but drum a little in our hearts. After all, ten thousand of their former clansmen had perished at the hands of the Demon God, and these four players of ours were not as good as them in terms of level, how much of a chance of victory could we have?

Leon and the others acted as if they were ready to die, while I thought about the fact that NPC warriors can't be revived once they die, and what would happen to these tribal warriors and their loved ones if they failed in this quest....

I can't think about this anymore, the responsibility is on my shoulders, I can only keep reassuring myself: the Demon God has not yet awakened, its strength should only be one ten thousandth of what it was in the past. ...

Leon and the others have already learned to ride, and the location of the Demon God is not far away, two hours later, we came to the "confused forest", said to be the Ox-Headed God was sealed place.

The original forest had long been turned into a desert, and after the fierce battle with the Bull Head God, all the trees had died, and in just ten years, the place had become barren. In the depths of the desert, a huge altar stood.

The tens of thousands of monsters spread across the desert in front of us made us suck in a breath of cold air.

There was no way back, so we resolutely killed our way into this sea of monsters, starting with the level 10 wolves at the edge of the desert and gradually advancing to the level 20 monster area. However, it was as if there was a boulder weighing down on everyone's heart, their heartbeat accelerated, and images of death, corpses, and skeletons repeatedly flashed in their minds, making it difficult for their strength to be utilized.

The Matriarch gritted his teeth and said, "It's this one again! It's the forbidden spell of the 'Ox-Headed Great God': 'Breath of Death'. The abilities of all monsters and humans here are reduced to half of their original levels. I can't imagine that after so many years, the power of this forbidden spell still remains undiminished!"

Heavens, it's actually a forbidden spell! The Ox-Headed Great God is so powerful, if he awakens, it will be a problem for us to even escape.

We continued to fight and killed the level 30 demonic beasts in the area, and despite the decrease in the strength of the monsters, we still found it difficult.

The patriarch was worried because these monsters clearly felt the 'breath of death' but still guarded the altar, it seemed that the will of the Ox-Headed Great God had been partially restored.

When we killed the level 40 beast area, the seven warriors of the tribe, except for the patriarch, were already struggling to fight. The four of us players and the patriarch were in a better situation, as our equipment was not less powerful and our various skills were still effective. Leon was even able to fight off the level 47 beast "Twin-tailed Lion" by himself, which he had been afraid of before.

However, our progress seemed to end there. There was still a large group of level 50+ magical beasts ahead of us! It seemed that we had taken on this quest too early, and this should be a challenge for level 50+ players.

The Wraiths, to us, were extremely terrifying enemies, their swarm attack skills and high intelligence gave us no chance of winning. The density of the Wraiths is so high that once you attack one of them, it is equivalent to attacking hundreds of Wraiths of the same species ...

What Leon and I mean is that it's impossible to rush to the altar today, it's better to go back and practice for ten days and half a month, and then find some experts to come with us. But the patriarch firmly shook his head: "No, from the situation of today's monsters, the Ox-Headed Great God has recovered considerable strength. Eight days ago we had sent people to watch, at that time only level 20 monsters appeared here, but now, every two or three days higher level monsters will be summoned. The day after tomorrow, spirit beasts might appear!"

Spirit beasts?Level 60+, highly intelligent spirit beasts? Geez, this really was an impossible task. Had I known this, three days ago, or even six days ago when I came alone, when there were only demonic beasts, I might have been able to complete the mission.

Facing the sea of beasts in front of us, we helplessly continued to fight to avoid more monsters from approaching us.

At the moment, I was fighting monsters 20 levels above me (mainly relying on the power of Leon, Tom and the Clan Chief), and as I watched my experience skyrocket, it didn't take long for me to rise to level 29.

Suddenly, I realized that the little Xuan Turtle in my pet bar seemed to have hatched. When I opened the pet window, a tiny white turtle was shrinking there, its eyes were still covered with a layer of film, and it was trying hard to open its eyes to see the world, looking particularly pitiful. Thinking that the mother of this cute little thing was killed by my own hands, I couldn't help but feel a pang of heartache. I pulled out some herbs and meat and brought them to its mouth, observing its reaction. Finding that it liked it, I fed it, and soon, the little turtle slept contentedly after eating its fill.

Checking the attributes of the little guy: Xuan Turtle, auxiliary pet, BOSS class second rank, can attach to the owner's armor or shield to strengthen the owner's life and defense.

Level 0, armoring increases the player's HP by 100, MP by 10, Physical Defense by 20, and Water Resistance by 30%.

To be able to increase HP by 100 at level 0, such a pet is what many players dream of. However, I was determined not to use it to help in combat.

It might be ridiculous, but I really couldn't forget the dying eyes of that BOSS Xuan Turtle. I had already left the little Xuan Turtle without a mother, so how could I use it to defend me from the enemy? If the enemy's attacks were strong, the Xuan Turtle would probably be the first to be broken, and I couldn't let it take that risk. Just treat it as an ornamental pet ...

At this time, Lyon and the others cleared the approaching foreign beasts, and everyone sat down on the ground in exhaustion, Lyon shouted for me to clean up the battlefield. Along the way, I was in charge of cutting up the monster's corpses, since none of them knew the Hunter's Cutting Technique, the items they cut were too few, and my backpack had long since been filled with various materials.

These high-level monsters have a lot of strange and weird things on their bodies, such as the "six-headed deer" deer head, six heads together, in reality, I'm afraid it can be sold for an astronomical price; "Stinger" on the body of the thorns, tugging on the center of the tendon, and then letting go, the front of the thorns fly out; "Ming Meng" body, pulling on the central tendon, and then letting go, the front of the thorns quickly shoot out. The skin of "Ming Meng" is transparent and easy to break, like a membrane, I don't know if it can be processed by skin-making technique in the future; and "Big Belly Demon", I actually pulled out a large piece of oil from their stomachs... ...

We continued to fight with fatigue and perseverance, with hope and determination in our hearts, because we knew that only by persevering could we truly guard this grassland and protect the future of the tribe.
