DAMI THE ACHIEVER

Friday, the day of the announcement finally came. Dami dressed neatly and went to the hall very early, before she went, her family and her said a little prayer. By 10:30am the announcers came and announced the top ten students who will be getting a scholarship. Dami was the second on the list, when she heard her name, she was so excited, all the other students left but the ten scholars stayed back to be given their uniforms and get every other necessary information. They were to start on Monday, because they were already two weeks behind the other students. Dami was given her uniform as well as all the necessary stationeries she'll need. She went home happily to tell the good news to her family and friends. When she got home, she shared the news with her family, and they were so happy.

THE NEXT DAY

IN THE BABATUNJI'S MANSION

Brian, the second son of Mr and Mrs Babatunji walks into the sitting room wearing trainers that he wore to the gym. His mother who was sitted in the sitting room sees him.

MRS BABATUNJI: You're back.

BRIAN: Yeah( he walks to the stairs).

MRS BABATUNJI: Your dad is coming home today (Brian stops walking) so clear your evening schedule, we'll have dinner together.

BRIAN: I'll be busy.

MRS BABATUNJI:(Stands up and walks to him) Your dad is returning after being away for over a month, the least you can do is have dinner with him.

BRIAN: He seized being my dad the day he became the governor of this state(He said angrily).

MRS BABATUNJI: That's the reason you are enjoying so much riches, shouldn't you be grateful.

BRIAN: I was living a rich and happy life even before he became a governor. Grandfather, great grandfather, they were all wealthy, and he is their successor, we were as wealthy as we are now, even before he became a governor. (Angrily) We are no longer a happy family since he became a governor.

MRS BABATUNJI: All he does is for your good.

BRIAN: (Scoff) My good, I lost my only brother, because he decided to be a governor. He is so busy, he forgets your marriage anniversary and he even the birthdays of his sons.

MRS BABATUNJI: He is working on your future, and as for your brother he made a stupid decision.

BRIAN: You guys drove him to make that decision, I'm tired of hearing you side your husband, I'll not be available for that dinner, period. (He says and walks to his room, Mrs Babatunji sighs frustrated).

THE NEXT DAY

Dami and Bisi are sitted under a big mango tree, drinking Soya milk.

BISI: Tomorrow is your big day, I'm proud of you.

DAMILOLA:(Smiles) Thanks Bisi.

BISI: That girl Amanda, she tried for you, God will bless her.

DAMILOLA:(Smiles) Amen, I'll miss you Bisi (she says with a sad face).

BISI: You talk as if you're leaving to America, isn't it still Lagos that we are?

DAMILOLA: It's just that I'll miss you as my classmate, you'll be left alone in that stupid school. I wish we could go together.

BISI: I want to drop out of school.

DAMILOLA:(Frowns) Why?

BISI: That school is a waste of my time, instead of wasting my time there, I'll just look for a job.

DAMILOLA: Are you okay with working?

BISI:( Smiles) Have you forgotten why I'm called the bulldozer, I can work any kind of work.

DAMILOLA: Which work do you have in mind?

BISI: I've seen a fuel station job, that I can use to support myself and my mother for now, until I think of something better.

DAMILOLA:(Smiles) Whatever you decide, I'll always support you

BISI:(Smiles back) So becoming a doctor will be easier now.

DAMILOLA: Well, this is just the beginning, I have to study and graduate with good grades.

BISI: That'll be easy for you (smiles) you're a book worm.

DAMILOLA:(Smiles) Let's go please, mummy might have started looking for me.

BISI: Okay, let's go (they both stood up and left the mango tree).
