Half an hour later, the delivery arrived.
"The delivery is here. I'll eat first," Alex Parker said.
Jessica Thompson waved her hand, "You eat first. I'm about to finish this level."
Alex took the delivery into the conference room, eating while browsing the app market for the latest games on his phone.
The official app market is different from some small channels. Small channels can directly contact channel merchants to buy recommended spots, but the official app market does not accept any bid rankings. Instead, it ranks games based on their release time, sales, and other data, making it difficult to manipulate the rankings.
Alex wanted to see if Empirical Interactive Entertainment and Zen Interactive Entertainment had released any new games recently. When these two giants release new games, they easily top the new games list due to their large user base, attracting most of the players' attention.
Alex was confident in the quality of "Plants vs. Zombies," but he didn't want to compete with these two companies head-on just yet.
Fortunately, the new games list was filled with small company products. Alex downloaded a few of the top-ranked games to check their quality. They were generally average, with the best ones comparable to Simon Dominic's "Storm Knight Adventure," unlikely to pose a threat to "Plants vs. Zombies."
As Alex was eating, Jessica Thompson burst into the conference room, quickly devoured the burger in two or three bites, and then swiftly ate most of the fries. Finally, she picked up the Coke and waved it at Alex, "I can drink this at my seat, right?"
Alex responded, "Uh... sure."
Jessica took the Coke and left the conference room in about five minutes.
Alex had only eaten half of his burger.
"Is it that engrossing? I'm starting to think you might be a shill for this game..."
Alex finished eating, cleaned the conference room, and emptied the trash.
The experience store was still just Alex and Jessica. Alex sat at the bar, planning the game's launch, while Jessica continued to focus on the game, with the only sound being mouse clicks.
Three hours later.
Alex stood up and walked around the store. He was surprised to see Jessica still intensely playing and had almost completed the third primary level, more than halfway through the first run of the story mode.
Her speed was impressive.
For a beginner, Jessica was relatively fast. She clearly grasped the game's mechanics, and it was only a matter of time before she completed the first run.
At that moment, Jessica's phone rang.
It rang four or five times before Jessica reluctantly answered.
"Hello?" she responded absentmindedly, her attention still on the screen, focusing on some zombie swimmers.
A male voice on the phone said, "Hey, where are you? We've been waiting for five minutes."
Jessica was puzzled, "Waiting for five minutes? For what?"
The male voice replied helplessly, "The promotional department meeting today at 4 PM, the time you set."
Jessica slapped her forehead, "Oh, right. Is it already 4 PM?"
The male voice: "..."
Jessica asked, "Are you all in the conference room?"
The male voice said, "Yeah, everyone is here, just waiting for you to start."
Jessica looked at the screen reluctantly. Although she could save the game, she didn't want to stop now.
Jessica thought for a moment and said, "How about you guys come here for the meeting? There's a sofa, a conference room, and drinks. After the meeting, we can have dinner together. How about it?"
The male voice said, "Uh? Sure, you're the boss. Where are you?"
Jessica replied, "Not far from our school, next to this neighbourhood. You know 'Pointer Internet Cafe,' right? Not there, but diagonally opposite at this new game experience store. Yeah, just come over."
Jessica gave detailed directions on the phone and then resumed playing.
About ten minutes later, a group of people arrived at the experience store's entrance.
There were ten of them, four males and six females, all looking like university students from nearby.
Leading the group was a slightly thin, dark-skinned man. He looked at the store sign and said, "This should be it."
A short girl dressed cutely entered the store, "Jessica, we're here."
Jessica looked at them, "Oh, you're here. Paul Wilder and Lily Emerson, you two lead everyone to the conference room. I'll be there shortly."
Paul Wilder approached Jessica from behind, "Please don't tell me you missed the meeting because you were engrossed in a game..."
Jessica raised an eyebrow, "Got a problem with that?"
Paul quickly shook his head, "No problem, no problem!"
The others, including Lily Emerson, suppressed their laughter and quietly sat in the conference room.
Alex didn't mind them. The experience store was open to everyone, so even if they didn't play games, they could sit in.
Jessica paused her game and entered the conference room, sitting in the center.
"Alright, let's begin," she said, looking at Paul and Lily.
The atmosphere was a bit strange, but under Jessica's aura, everyone quickly adjusted.
Paul opened his notebook, "Today's meeting has three main topics: next week's promotional posters..."
Paul and Lily were the two deputy heads of the promotional department, handling most of the work. As the head, Jessica only needed to make decisions on major issues, mostly just listening during regular meetings.
Paul and Lily discussed some matters and quickly assigned tasks. Any unresolved issues were decided by Jessica. The meeting lasted about half an hour.
Jessica stood up, "Alright, is that everything? If so, I'll be off."
Jessica left the conference room and returned to her seat to continue playing.
Paul and the others left the conference room, curiously standing behind Jessica.
"Jessica, what game has got you so hooked?" Paul asked curiously.
As the head of the promotional department, Jessica was highly regarded by the juniors, especially a few girls who idolized her. Seeing her so engrossed in a game made them all wonder just how fun this game could be.
