Chapter 80: Talking Nonsense

Alex Parker said, "Well, you see, I Am MT is completely free, right? Even if you don't spend a penny, you can keep playing until the game shuts down, right?"

Bowie Jimenez thought for a moment and nodded in agreement.

Alex continued, "So why do players spend so much money on a free game? Actually, I'm a time traveler. I can manipulate players' brains through this game, making them willingly spend money."

Bowie: "???"

The atmosphere became awkward.

Alex chuckled, "Sorry, that joke was a bit too cold."

Bowie wiped the sweat from her forehead. "It's okay, it's okay. You tell cold jokes so seriously that I fell for it."

Alex said, "Obviously, I can't be a time traveler, nor can I control players' brains, right? So, the only explanation for players spending so much on a free game is that they genuinely love it. They feel the sincerity I put into the game, which makes them willing to support me financially, hoping I will create more and better games in the future."

"Because of this, I always remember the players' love and am constantly motivated to develop better games to repay them."

Bowie's mouth twitched. "If I remember correctly, you said earlier that you were taking a break recently?"

Alex nodded. "That's right. But I'm always thinking about my beloved players."

Bowie felt a bit exasperated. This guy is just talking nonsense!

It seems impossible to get any valuable answers from him!

But since she was already here, Bowie had no choice but to continue.

"To promote I Am MT, you invested in an animated series called I Am MT and created a website, 'Azeroth Universe,' to introduce the game's world. The content is very rich."

"However, I Am MT didn't use much of this lore. Is this due to the game's genre, or was the lore meant to be a gimmick from the start?"

Alex replied, "That's a secret, so everyone can look forward to it."

Bowie asked, "So, does that mean you plan to continue developing the Azeroth world?"

Alex said, "I never promised that. I said it's a secret, so everyone can look forward to it."

The interview lasted nearly two hours. By the end, Bowie felt her thoughts were completely jumbled. Fortunately, her recorder had captured their conversation, and she had taken notes.

Feeling she couldn't get any more information, Bowie stood up to leave.

"Thank you for your time today," she said.

Alex waved his hand. "No need to thank me. I appreciate you sharing my true thoughts with all the players, letting them feel my love for the game and my sincerity towards them."

Bowie: "…Goodbye."

Leaving Alex's experience store, Bowie felt a bit dizzy.

What just happened? I feel like I was fooled...

Before coming, her editor had emphasized getting the secrets behind I Am MT, like the secret to its revenue or Alex's creative process, as these would be explosive and make the article a hit.

Even if she couldn't uncover those secrets, she was supposed to get Alex's real thoughts, like his focus on profit over player experience or how he incites competition among players.

Such content would create controversy and generate buzz.

But Bowie realized she had completely failed her editor's mission.

The secrets behind I Am MT? None.

Alex's real thoughts? None.

He just spouted nonsense about his love for the game, sincerity towards players, and persistence in dreams.

Alex's answers were so absurd that Bowie began to suspect he might be delusional.

"Forget it, I'll just write what Alex said..."

Looking at her notes, Bowie felt a headache coming on. She had a premonition this would be the most convoluted article she'd ever written.

Watching Bowie leave, Alex chuckled. Trying to trick me? You're too inexperienced.

As if he would reveal the secrets behind I Am MT's revenue. If he did, the article would serve as a free "how to profit" guide for every game designer.

Of course, Alex knew that game designers would eventually figure out the monetization methods for card games, leading to a flood of card games like in his previous world.

But Alex didn't mind. Even if they caught on, it would take months. By then, Alex wouldn't care about these basic card games.

Three days later, Alex's interview was published on the game channel of Tianji.com, titled "Exclusive Interview with I Am MT Designer Alex Parker: Creating Joy with Heart."

One part read:

"When asked why he was so confident about I Am MT, Alex Parker responded, 'My creed in game design is creating joy with heart. Making such an excellent game stems from my love for games, sincerity towards players, and persistence in dreams.'"

There were many similar quotes. Bowie had faithfully recorded Alex's responses.

The interview indeed became popular, but not in the way Bowie had expected.

Players left comments after reading the interview.

"Every word Alex says is a lie!"

"Creating joy with heart? More like creating joy with money!"

"I used to think he was genuine when he made Plants vs. Zombies, but now he's completely exposed as a scammer!"

"This is hilarious. Who did this interview? The reporter and editor must be brainless, hahaha."

"Alex talks nonsense, and the editor actually published it seriously!"

"I feel like I'm watching the news..."

"This is the best joke of the year, Alex creating joy with heart, hahaha."

"Totally underestimated this guy's shamelessness!"
