Chapter 35: The Silent Enemy

I tensed, my pulse hammering. "You haven't won anything yet."

Leon's smirk widened "Haven't I?"

The door behind him creaked open and my stomach tied up in a knot as soon as I saw who walked in.

Emilia.

Bound at the wrist, her dress was stained with dirt and dried blood. A bruise was beginning to form along her cheekbone, but her eyes were hot and challenging as they locked onto mine: no fear there.

I surged to my feet. "If you touch her in any way"

"Sit"

Leon's voice was cold and devoid of amusement.

Two guards stepped forward and their hands on the hilts of their swords. I breathed deep forcing air through the fear that clamped my throat in rage. I sat down again gripping the table's edge hard enough that my palms ached.

Leon stood circling Emilia like a predator circles its prey "You know" he said "it's interesting how much you care about her. I almost envy you that"

I shot him a glare "Let her go"
