She gave me a look of pure disbelief "Then what was he, Vickson?"

"Your father was the key to something much bigger than you realize," I said carefully. "Something dangerous."

Hailey drew in a deep breath as if she were trying to keep her head above water in some ocean of falsehoods "And you kept that from me"

I sighed and ran a hand down my face "Because I didn't know how to tell you"

She scoffed "So you just didn't?"
