Chapter: Gangster
Bruno Costa was a bald man with sunglasses and a strong build. At first glance, he appeared as a tough character who had seen many battles.
At this moment, he surveyed the young people before him.
All of them were covered in bruises and blood, clearly having endured torture. Their hands and feet were bound, mouths gagged, faces contorted with horror.
"Mr. Fisk gave you a chance, but you failed to appreciate it," Bruno spoke slowly. "It's time to say farewell to this world."
"End them," he ordered with a wave of his hand.
"Yes!"
A gangster stepped forward, wielding a silenced pistol aimed at the forehead of one of the young men.
"Mmm! Mmm!" The man trembled in fear, unable to utter a plea under the gag.
"Bang!"
The silencer muffled most of the gunshot as the bullet pierced his forehead, ending his life.
One by one, those tied up met the same fate, their bodies disposed of by Bruno's men.
For Frank castle, who had survived the Afghan war, scenes like these were tragically familiar. However, his wife and children were clearly shaken.
His wife, more composed being an adult, urged, "Frank, let's get out of here."
But their young children, frightened and confused, asked, "Dad... are they... killing people?"
Frank remained silent, focused on escape.
The family quickly rose, preparing to flee the gruesome scene.
However, a sharp-eyed gangster alerted Bruno, "There's movement over there!"
"Hurry!" Frank grabbed his children and fled.
"Crack!"
Another silenced gunshot rang out, hitting Frank in the back.
He screamed and collapsed.
"Frank!" His wife rushed to help, panicked.
"Go!" Frank gritted through the pain, struggling to push his family away, his injuries hindering him.
Soon, gangsters surrounded them.
"Well, if it isn't lawyer caste," Bruno remarked with a smirk. "We've met before."
Mrs. Custer pleaded desperately, "Please, don't hurt us..."
Bruno sighed. "I'm a reasonable man. Unfortunately, you've witnessed things you shouldn't have, and you're a lawyer, ma'am. I can't let a witness live."
Frank, bleeding on the ground, pleaded, "Let them go, spare the children..."
Mrs. Custer cried, "Mr. Costa, let them go, they're innocent!"
Ignoring their pleas, Bruno aimed at the children and fired.
"Bang! Bang!"
"No!" Mrs. Custer tried to grab the gun but failed, deflecting only one shot, saving her daughter who lay wounded.
"My... it hurts..." the daughter whimpered in pain.
Seeing his family devastated, Frank's wife rushed Bruno in a desperate attempt to attack him.
"Bang!"
But she too fell to a bullet.
Bruno cursed at his subordinate for the loud shot.
"Sorry, boss..." The gangster stammered.
Bruno quickly disposed of the castle family and ordered a swift retreat to avoid attracting nearby police.
Moments later, police cars arrived, officers rushing to the scene.
"How are they?" an officer asked.
The castle family lay motionless in pools of blood, only Frank still breathing.
Weakly pointing toward Bruno's escape route, Frank closed his eyes, unsure if he would survive.
"Get them to the hospital!" the officer ordered. "We pursue the killers!"
The police intercepted Bruno's vehicle before he could escape.
"Stop, NYPD!"
"Curses!" Bruno cursed, knowing resistance was futile against the NYPD, despite Fisk's influence.
Bruno was removed from the car, and a thorough search commenced.
They found the pistol and bloodstained clothes, triumphantly announcing, "New York City's scum, you're going to jail!"
