Part II
It's two in the morning and I'm still here in the floating district.
I think I should go back and rest to finish tomorrow's work.
The fourth Thursday of this month.
As soon as I left school I decided to come on my own, but I think it would turn out that way even if I invited Mikael to come with me.
That guy is boring...
While I was looking at the bottom of my last drink of beer, I felt like a person with a well-known atmosphere was slowly approaching behind me.
I think I'll pretend I haven't seen him.
...: Are you still here at this time?
That's what I should say...
Guffy: You should know by now that I have nothing better to do, unlike a certain person, Nikki.
Nikki: I'm just doing my job, my brother.
After a handshake, Nikki takes a seat next to me and orders a couple of beers.
This talk could last a long time, but I've already made a decision and I'm starting to get sleepy.
Guffy: I wouldn't want to disdain the fact that you brought some drinks to talk, but I was about to leave; and so you should be brief with what you will say.
Nikki: Relax my brother, I just got here and I just want to chat.
Nikki: Also, I didn't say that I'll be the one paying for the drinks.
Guffy: You're an idiot.
Guffy: So tell me, did something happen recently?
Nikki: You're as direct... as always...
Nikki: What makes you think something happened?
Guffy: I've felt like something is wrong for a while, although I don't know exactly what it is.
Nikki: You may be right or maybe it's just your wishful thinking, my brother.
It may be true.
But I rarely have illusions...
Nikki: It's relative, but you don't seem to be the only one who thinks the same.
Nikki: Some buyers seem uneasy and several consumers are baffled; or almost as if they felt obliged to work even though the police were running around.
Guffy: Have you heard about any kind of action on his part?
Nikki: No, but there are always suspicions.
Nikki: Why are they so tame and peaceful in the same areas of Velenques?
Guffy: They certainly look like farmhouse scarecrows.
Nikki: Right?!
Not many connects seem to notice that since they are focused on money and sales; and more who like buyers who are focused on certain acquisitions due to the soon emergence of Ardilla as a high-end connect.
The waters are rough.
Nikki: Very few of us have noticed that (habitual) behavior that they have, but we feel that it is not entirely correct.
Guffy: But there's also the possibility that we're overthinking something so simple.
Police forces are carrying out routine operations to monitor movement on the streets, but they are not expanding as they normally would and appear to be at a standstill.
Almost as if out of obligation or for some reason that escapes our understanding with the little information we have about it.
The truth is that as such these things tend to be ignored due to the preparations already mentioned.
Guffy: We low-ranking connects can't do more than have fulfilled our original role.
Nikki: I still have more information but it won't be free for you.
Guffy: I don't want it either, just a moment ago I was thinking of leaving before you came.
While he sighs with disappointment, he looks away and gives up talking.
He slowly got up from the seat and before turning his back on me, he looked at the beer bottle that he left almost intact.
Nikki: You know the situation in East and North Mildram, and what others think too, don't expose yourself to the feds.
...
Hang on a minute...
Guffy: What did you say?
Nikki: I won't tell you anything anymore.
Guffy: Wait, wait!
And so, as he continued ahead without paying attention to me, he left the bar and disappeared through the streets of the floating district.
It's useless.
But he just revealed something fascinating.
No matter how you look at it, whether the information is true or perhaps it is prejudice, the current movement is not surprising.
Nikki is a low-class connection just like me.
We are not friends nor enemies, but we have a common goal: to survive the harsh street life.
He is an intelligent and submissive boy, although very reserved and contemptuous of others.
But even so, his ability to gather accurate information and deduce from it is undoubtedly considerable; an undeniable thing.
Although one of her weaknesses is magnate and good-looking men.
He is certainly homosexual.
If he had accepted more of the information in exchange for a price to be paid, he would most likely come away with some type of interest from that source.
I think the outcome is better this way...
