The usually efficient escalators, now motionless and dark, resemble metallic snakes, coiled and menacing. The soft hum of the air conditioning vents has given way to an oppressive silence, punctuated only by the muffled sounds of fear and despair.
The once-familiar sights and sounds of the mall - the chatter of shoppers, the chime of cash registers, the wail of children - have been replaced by an unsettling quiet, a heavy stillness that hangs in the air like a miasma of dread.
In this atmosphere of fear, the captives' cries and whispers seem to echo through the deserted corridors, their pleas for help and mercy muffled by the cold, unforgiving walls of the mall. The very structure of the building seems to have become a prison, a trap from which there is no escape.
But as we know our Anokhi, she is not afraid of anyone but knows how to scare people.
