Moving Places

Genken had put on his charismatic smile.

"Good morning! The two of us would like to transfer our progress as adventurers to the Mastermind Guild."

"You're a party?"

"Yes."

"One second, please."

The man behind the counter went into the back room and came back a few seconds later, now holding a letter.

He opened it and revealed that it was a piece of paper that was folded like a letter. There were various tables and lines on the front.

"Have you done this before?"

"Not him."

Genken nodded in Locus' direction.

"In short terms, you just fill this out, give it back to us, and we'll send it to the Mastermind Guild."

"Great, thank you."

On their way to an empty table where Locus could fill out the form, they were eyed by what felt like the whole room.

"Why are they all looking at us?"

"Ha! You just made a group with quite the reputation quit their job while saving someone and then announced that you wanted to move to the Mastermind territory. You don't see that all day."

The two of them sat down and scribbled stuff on the paper before going to the long table and handing it back in.

"What now?"

"Now we go pack our things. Guilds have people with abilities that allow them to send letters over vast distances in a short amount of time. They'll take take of your form."

A few seconds later, Locus and Genken stood inside Locus' room.

"Gather all the stuff you want to bring along. I'll be back in a few minutes."

Over the past months, Locus had bought some clothes and some additional adventurer gear. That was all he needed.

As told, Genken showed up in Locus' room about ten minutes later.

"Alright, I've been to a few housing facilities, and I've found a hotel in the capital that has room for two guests for an indefinite period of time. It's on the more expensive side of things, but that should not be a problem."

Right, even though he was rather modest in terms of behavior and looks, Genken was quite wealthy.

"Let's check out."

Locus looked at Genken.

"If we're planning on becoming criminals anyway, why do we even bother checking out? It would save us some money if we just teleported away."

Genken's face went from sleepy to serious.

"Haven't you learned anything about being a gentleman? The people here take care of our wellbeing. They deserve to get rewarded for such a generous deed."

"Relax. I was just joking."

Genken's face went back to looking sleepy.

"Come on. I don't want to keep the hotel waiting."

When Locus left the inn, he realized what Genken meant. Locus now felt the feeling of leaving behind what had been your home for one year.

Genken and Locus walked into a dark alley where no one was around to see them and teleported away, right inside a foyer with people behind a counter watching them. Locus was shocked.

"Genken, we teleported inside of a space with people!"

"I know."

"What? But don't they know about your teleportation ability now?"

"We're inside the territory of the Mastermind Guild. A teleportation ability is not as rare as you think."

Locus looked around. Indeed, the people just looked at them for a second and then turned back around.

"I've got our room keys. Let's go. Oh, and while we're at it, would you check your adventurer card real quick?"

Locus took out the card. It looked just fine. Nothing bad had happened to it. Locus turned it around and searched for any damage.

"You silly boy, did you really think those were normal cards? Why do you think they take so long to make them?"

Genken pointed at the 'Affiliation' on the card. It was now labeled 'Mastermind Guild'.

"Did you never notice your rank change on the card?"

Locus was completely stunned because of the fact that he didn't.

"Ahem, of course I did. I was just joking around."

He quickly went to the stairs while Genken chuckled.

"Let's go see our rooms."
